Editors: Jeanette Carroll Bernice Magruder Business Manager: Peggy Cockrell TUDENTS OF FAIRFAX HIGH SCHOOL ALMA MATER i Our strong band can ne’er be broken. Formed in Fairfax High — Far surpassing wealth unspoken. Seal’d by friendship’s tie. Chorus Alma Mater, Alma Mater, Deep graven on each heart, Shall be found unwav’ring true, When we from life shall part. II Mem’ry’s leaflets close shall twine Around our hearts for aye, And waft us back, o’er life’s broad track To pleasures long gone by. Ill High school life at best is passing, Gliding swiftly by; Then let us pledge in word and deed, Our love for Fairfax High. [ 4 ] RJE -- ' -4 1 tA 3 ■ ' .nBBgjpi ■ • -• 1 ! I 3 , orewor « d . . In this, the Sixteenth Volume of the Fare Fac Sampler, we bring to you every phase of your high school life, hoping that this book will serve as a Scrapbook of Memories of your days spent at Fairfax High School. In the years to come, as you leaf through these pages, may you feel that: When Time, who steals our years away Shall steal our pleasures, too, The mem’ry of the past will stay, And half our joys renew.” — Thomas Moore [ 6 ] [ 7 ] Vk ' Alcv von We the class of 1951 affectionately dedicate this Sixteenth Volume of the Fare Fac Sampler to MR. SAMUEL JOSEPH COFFEY in recognition and appreciation of his understanding guidance and numerous contributions to our class, to the community, and to Fairfax High School. We, who entered Fairfax as the first eighth grade in the fall of 1946, brought with us Mr. Coffey as our new principal. Under his leadership, for five years we have seen our school grow both in scope and in purpose. We leave him to you and this FARE FAC SAMPLER to him, assured that he will continue to say to you as he has to us: I am not a teacher: only a fellow-traveller of whom you asked the way. I pointed ahead — ahead of myself as well as of you.” — George Bernard Shaw [ 8 ] [ JO ] The ADMINISTRATION [ 11 ] M min id tra tion Wilbert T. Aims and Accomplishments The friendly spirit radiated by all members of Student Government this year has invariably developed a closeness” between the administration and student body; a relationship rarely found in high schools. A challenge which made all mem- bers of this organization feel tight inside when they thought of what lay ahead — yet, with willing spirit they went forward. Through their initiative and wholehearted cooperation the cabinet members have successfully carried out their official duties. [ 84 ] There have been many accomplishments during the year. The Orientation Day program (the hrst ever held) was given for the purpose of helping new students to better adjust themselves through this special greeting. By the distribution of handbooks and Honor Cards we hoped to impress in the minds of students a more sincere and deep sense of loyalty to Fairfax High School. District H Day and the Club project was proof enough that all members of Student Government were really working. Homecoming, November 10, was again this year entirely run by Student Government.
