Many things have been accomplished by the Association such as: revised the Student Government Constitution, mouse proofed all lockers, supervised the locker system and gen- eral clean up campaigns, issued new Student Handbooks, sponsored a Sadie Hawkins Dance, a Football Dance, a Christmas Dance, an Interschool Dance, an April Fool’s Dance, and a Spring Dance. They sponsored the community chest, Mile of Dimes, Cancer and Red Cross drives in the school. They served as host for the County S. C. A., organized and set up bulletin boards, presented school awards in athletics, literary and general achievement fields. This chapter took its name from the initials of a former and beloved principal Mr. Gordon Smith thus G. S. in Greek yields Gamma Sigma. The society is composed of those students who are outstanding in leadership, scholarship, character and service during tlte past year. These students have encouraged wide participation in school activities and have sponsored assembly programs. They acquired the fundamental basis of dramatics and presented a guidance play. In so doing they reached their goal of standard aims which were to present plays for the entertainment of the student body, and to familiarize themselves with the arts of dramatics. All members were vert - talented and worked well together while jokes and laughter filled th ' c atmosphere during club meetings. Flic turn out for the club has been so great that a Junior Dramatics Club has been organized. They have worked on the basic prin- ciples of dramatic production and the acting out of pantomimes. The timing for the evacuation ranges from fifty seconds for the annex to two minutes for the main building. Fire extinguishers are located in each building for control of minor fires, and fire drills arc held, one each month, for practice. The aims of the patrol are: to direct the evacuation of all the students from all buildings in the shortest possible time; to be ready to fight and control any small fire in any build- ing; to conduct regular drills throughout the school year; and to call the fireman and direct the pupils from the building in an orderly fashion in case of fire. The Varsity Club has gone over its goal by accomplishing the following things: It has given all members who have earned three or more letters. Athletic sweaters. Also they have given little gold charms of different spurts to all of the lettermen and women that have already received a letter. A banquet for the Hockey girls and Football boys has been given and they have sponsored a dance. Sept. 26-27— We had a holiday while the teachers attended a workshop. Sept. 28— Football Dance highlights the sea- son. Oct. 4— First issue of the Fair Facts extends welcome to Eighth Graders. Oct. 14— First hockey game of the season. A large turn-out to see Fairfax Rebelettes lose to W-L. Oct. 17— Football game with G-W. The boys played a good game even if they did lose 13-0! Oct. 23— Just our luck! Reports were given out. Nov. 1— Our new athletic fence is completed. Nov. 7— The Fall Talent Show creates more enthusiasm. Nov. 8— “The Absent-Minded Professor” was ably presented by the Junior Class. Nov. 9— Sadie Hawkins Dance— all the boys kept out of sight! Nov. 1 1— “ Armistice”— we enjoy another hol- iday. Nov. 28— Thanksgiving Holidays begin. The annual football game played Thanksgiv- ing Day drew the largest crowd ever to attend an athletic event at Fairfax. We won! Fairfax 6— Mount Vernon 0. Dec. 2— School resumes. Dec. 14— Fairfax is represented on the All High-All Prep Team which played at Griffith Stadium. Dec. 17— Basketball season opens. Our first opponent, Lackey High School. Dec. 19— Annual Christmas Dance. Every- one was at his best! Dec. 20— A beautiful cantata, “The Won- derous Story,” brought school to a close for the holidays. Jan. 2— Back to the grind again! This time with pages of resolutions. Jan. 18— Boxing season begins. Jan. 30— President’s Ball climaxed “Mile of Dimes Campaign.” Feb. 7— Gamma Sigma extends invitation to new members. Feb. 2 1-28— Snowstorm holidays. Feb. 28— Fairfax plays W-L in basketball. The game was broadcast. Also boxing that night with Allentown. We won 5 !4 to 4 2 . March 5— The Magazine Drive ends. Our total for the drive was $2,564. March 21— The Band makes its debut in the presentation, “The Annual Band Follies.” March 28— Hans Kindler and the National Symphony hold the spotlight. April 1— April Fool’s Dance. Many were fooled, too. April 8— Easter was cut short because of the snowstorm but we enjoyed Easter Mon- day as a holiday.
