5 EWG The greatest conflict in the history of our nation has ended. Yes, World War II is over, but the scars and tragic memories of those years following December 7, 1941, still remain. In its small way, Fairfax High School is endeavoring now, as in wartime, to contribute in every way possible to the ideal of lasting peace which was the aim of each man and woman who fought for this country, for this state, and for Fairfax High School. During the war years the students of this high school have sponsored War Bond sales, led scrap drives and participated in Red Cross activities, Air Raid Warden Service, Health Department clinic work, airplane spot- ting, farm aid, U. S. O. service, child care, school janitorial assistance, public library Work, and Ration Board assistance. Most of these activities were carried on under the Victory Corps which was organized in 1942. And, along with every other high school in America, Fairfax sent its boys and girls off to war. Now with the job done, they are returning to assume the respon- sibilities of civilian life and to accept the adjustments they must make. Some are continuing their prewar occupations-others are resuming their studies in high schools and in colleges. In this 1945-46 FAKE FAC SAMPLER, we have endeavored to portray the part our school has played in Winning the war and in preserving the peace. We wish to inscribe in the hearts and in the memories of every student the great deeds and heroic efforts made by a small cog in a big wheel turning toward victory. And now with that victory accomplished, we wish to welcome back the boys who left our school to do their part in the defense of their country and who are now returning-and a special welcome to those who are continuing the greatest work of all time at Fairfax High School-the job of creating and living in a world of peace.
