Doorway of Fairfax County Court House The Students of Fairfax High School in publishing this, their year book, wish to commemorate the Bicentennial Anniversary of Fairfax County Editors VIRGINIA ANNE HENDERSON JOHN RIGGLE Business Manager JOHN SWART 19 4 2 VOLUME VII Doorway of Fairfax High School Published by the Students of FAIRFAX HIGH SCHOOL Fairfax, Virginia In appreciation of her friendly inspiring guidance and personal, helpful interest in each of us, and in recognition of her numerous contributions to our school beyond line of duty during her long term of service, we the staff, and the senior class gratefully dedicate the 1942 Fare Fac Sampler. eoication We pause to salute Robert B. Walker, who as assistant principal during the past years at Fairfax High School has so skillfully and decisively guided our school toward higher scholastic standing. For many years Mr. Walker provided the school with efficient financial administration. At certain times, he became acting principal with great versatility and executive ability. Our boys ' basketball and football teams knew him as a keen and reliable coach, who contributed much to the success of Fairfax on the courts and on the field. So, Mr. Walker, though we miss you, we appreciate your fine contributions to our school and wish you the best of luck in your new position. ROBERT B. WALKER Mount Vernon Home of George Washington Behind every institution is the lengthening shadow of tradition. This year, 1942, stretches the shadow of traditions of Fairfax High School across the short span of seven years — the traditions of Fairfax County across two hundred years. Those students who edited the first volume set down guiding principles which emphasized the devlopmnt of ladership, schol- arship, and character for all those who are to follow in their footsteps through the class rooms of learning. oreworJ amp L er Strikingly similar were the first principles taught by pre- cept and example in the lives of two famous citizens of Fairfax County, immortal in the minds of men, George Washington and George Mason. Students today face critical years and responsibilities greater than those faced by any generation since the struggle for independnce. Thus has our course been set in the shadow of the same tradition in which that of our county has sailed with assurance and a firmness of faith. We are thus enabled to point with confidence to the guiding prin- ciples of our school — leadership, scholarship and character to preserve for all time the rights of free men.
