You may not realize how great a responsibility you have in the world today. The most important learning is how to meet any crisis with under- standing. Today you cannot afford to be ignorant because ignorance can be the cause of war. It is urgent that you give serious thought to your plans for living in this world. First, it is imperative that every person in this country should advance our democratic principles with all the force, vigor and power within him. Second, it is vital for you as an individual to seek peace with freedom. Third, it is essential for you to recognize that the greatest need of our time is not to know more, but to do better. Let us dedicate our future to building the de- fences of peace and security in the minds of men. Ella Arciniega ELLA ARCINIEGA Girls' Vice-Principal SAMUEL D. OELRICH Boys' Vice-Principal It has been my happy privilege to become a Fairfax Colonial. As the days have become months, I too have learned to love our school. Fairfax is beautiful. Her walks and gardens and Greenway Court are unmatched. But finer yet are her faculty and student body. Friendliness, under- standing, great ability and high standards charac- terize both. There is a spirit, deep, human, and fine, that draws people to us and makes us happy here and loathe to leave. I have gauged the quality and spirit of Fairfax; I know that it is a great experience to be a Colo- nial. I hope to remain a Colonial forever, in spirit if not in person. Samuel D. Oelrich
