Major Robert Hayes and Monica Young 68 SENIOR CLASS HISTORY In September, 1964, twelve of our Senior Class found their way to the gates of Fairfax: Patricia B. came with no shoes, only riding boots Clare brought a smile and a cheery “hey” Hudson came with a bottle of peroxide in each hand Portia came as a soft-spoken encyclopedia Cherie brought brown dinner plates instead of eyes Martie M. came with naturally curly hair, and left with it Dede, we'll all remember, brought her electric guitar Robin came with an habitual suntan and hair to her waist Clark came with a powerful pair of lungs Pritchie brought the sunshine from Florida with her Sally came with hair-raising tales of Peruvian existence and Monica came with an abundant supply of Revlon equipment. In 1965 we acquired nineteen more: Irene came with “Vixen,” but she lasted a little longer Esther was the only nightingale and played the piano like Chopin “Navy” came saying “Call me Barby’—it didn’t work Susan F. came and started calling people to the ‘phone Annie came with a little stomach, but a big heart Jacque came as Buster Brown and left as Rapunzel While Sissy S. came as Rapunzel and left as Buster Brown Sandy came gracefully dancing Betsy brought with her a love for other people Jennie came with her handy sewing machine Ferna came with ready talons Gena brought nice clothes and an even nicer laugh Roughton brought a few left-over tantrums Sue S. came as just Sue, but seemed to acquire a few more names Stovall came because Fairfax is less than an hour from some school called U. Va. Jane came like a prize in a box of Cracker Jacks Mary W. had a sunburned face and beautiful eyes Marty W. brought some “non-stop” hair and Hester came with her “lending wardrobe” In °66, fourteen followed in their footsteps: Mary B. and Anjo came from Ahoskie—ever heard of it? Vickie came with several suitcases of hairspray Lisa brought her pretty face and ready smile Holly seemed to slip in quietly But Puddles couldn’t have been missed Helen came with a large supply of granny glasses Margie came by accident—she thought Fairfax was the training grounds for a certain television program Linn and Pat L. brought with them the rather unlikely story that they were cousins Donna came with foot-long, fluttering eyelashes Marty V. D. came as the most accident prone Pam came with a ready argument or two and Tootie came with her model’s face. As you can see, with a class like this one, we’re bound to make history! 69 2 2 e) of aa) 4 wy fo — cal Most Talented LisA CALLAWAY Class Beauty DER ANNE GON Best Personality Most Studious Mary WEIR Most Athletic MARTHA WOLLBRINCK W ittiest ACQUE GREER J e | Most Versati aS v v 1S) O = icp) jo) — v ni —] =) 7) = PROPHECY OF THE CLASS OF 1968 Ten years have passed since the Class of 1968 left the hallowed halls of Fairfax Hall. The Alums are entering the vast ballroom here at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. Betsy Linder, the former class president and now president of the Sweet and Lovely Air Freshener Company, has just risen to call the roll. It should be interesting to see what pursuits our classmates have followed. It appears that, for many girls, married life was the answer to their dreams. Sissy Spruance has just walked in with hubby Paul McCartney, followed by Mary Weir and Warren Beatty. Seated at a table for two are Bickie and Cherie, the perfect married couple. Not far from them is Donna Muller, who, when not teaching math at Vanderbilt, is the happy wife of Craig and the mother of three little ballerinas. There’s Betty Pritchard walking around with that same old chip on her shoulder. She has just joined Jacque Greer (who appeared in a brief bikini), and it is obvious that Jacque’s love for the beach will never grow Rusty. Several of our classmates have become career girls. Irene Bell was the first to arrive. It seems that she is working in a pet shop which sells Rens for the right Price. Sandy Kotarides owns and manages the Kotarides School of Dance and Etiquette. Martie Mehler deserves a Pat on the back for working with Bob Hope and his troop entertaining troops overseas. Tootie is featured in this month’s Harper’s Bazaar modeling her own fashions. Glad to see that Pam White, now a famous horse trainer, could get away from her riding school in England. That prosperous group of Wyatt, Boone, and Foster are now owners of a company that devises handy techniques in opening padlocked glass doors. Anne Gonder is now the slim, shapely dietitian at Fairfax. Clark has become head of the nursing department at Walter Reed Hos pital. Holly Compton, a world famous model, has just entered with six poodles leading her. Gena is making money with her “Priceless Clothes by Price.” Navy is working in the North manufacturing denim uniforms. Fishing around in the punch bowl is Lisa, head of the Fish Department in the National Zoo. Monica is visiting with several young men whose services she will need as President of the Select-A-Mate Computer Dating Service. Having just re- ceived the Nobel Prize in Science for her development of the pill for instant weight loss, Clare will be arriving late. The art world has Dede to thank for her fine reproduction of Van Gogh. Vickie has not drifted away from her dear old alma mater, for she is now teaching Algebra II at Fairfax. Having just emerged from her laboratory under the ocean, Sally Snyder has become world-famous as a marine biologist. Robin Peck is now president of another AA organization, the purpose of which we cannot disclose. 72 As our gazes wander across the ballroom, we see Ferna with her year-long tan, and Margie, who is becoming very nervous for fear that one of her seven husbands might show up. Anjo is excitedly telling everyone how she quit smoking, while Linn has just disclosed the publication date of her book, The Rewards of Being Frank. Martha Wollbrinck, famed French-speaking actress, sends her best wishes and apologies for not being able to attend. Unfortunately, she is too busy making a movie on the Riviera to slip away. Portia slinks in looking like the cat that ate the canary. It seems she has attained her life ambition; she is now the star of the daytime drama, “Dark Shadows.” Esther Brown has also been drawn toward the theatre. She is now one of the brightest lights on Broadway. Helen and Barbara are both in the milita ry service. Helen is the housemother for Junior School at AMA and Barbara is social director at Fishburne. Some of the alums should receive credit for their devotion to their hometowns. Tricia Ligon has just been named ‘Miss Raleigh,” and Jane is avidly raising horses outside Staunton. Then there is Cissy Stovall who is reportedly putting Stovall, Mississippi up for sale. Although everyone was welcome to bring her children, we were somewhat surprised when Debbie walked in with several little ones trailing behind her, all wearing fashions by Jennie. The happy chatter is interrupted for a moment when Betsy rises to read a Red Cross Citation to Puddles Carter who passed away from hunger while swimming the length of the Panama Canal. Then our attention is diverted as we see Patricia Brown bound across the screen of the TV set. It seems she has been asked to begin the Olympics with a cheer. Our reunion was almost complete except for Susan, who was suffering from a nervous ulcer, and Marty, who had just dived into a pool that was—unfortunately—empty. 73 JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS PENNY (WHEELER Sa oo Eicon aes ee eee ee ee See President CAROL.
