In witness whereof we hereby subscribe our names and set our seals this second day of June, in the year of our Lord, One Thousand Nine Hundred and Sixty-One. 87 Class Beauty Most Intellectual ANNE SMITH JEANETTE BROYHILL Superlatives Best Athlete Best Sense of Humor BEcKy BARTON PENNY COLL se 88 Ay i med Best Personality Most Versatile CooKIE GREEN Maccig MULLENS Superlatives Most Friendly Most Likely to Succeed BEVERLEY BusH ELEANOR WATSON Class Prophecy The time is June 3, 1971, and the class of ’61 has finally made it to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to see if this is really ““where the boys are.” Unfortunately three members of the class couldn’t make it. Diane Long couldn’t miss her Friday Bridge Club; she’s teaching the Indians in Okla- homa to play bridge. Bunky Witham had to stay in New York for the publication of her new book, ““Why the South Really Did Win the War”, and Cookie Phillips couldn’t get away from the Congo where she is now em- ployed to teach the natives how to be “ivy”’. The rest of the class did come, however, the first arrival being Jeanette Broyhill who was vacationing on her yacht from her job of making out the College Board Examinations in Princeton. Katherine Minnich flew in from Paris where she had been teaching the French to speak with a southern accent. Anne Smith came in right behind Katherine and told us that she is now work- ing in New York as a model for fingernail polish. Traveling with Anne was Cookie Greene who is the head buyer for Saks Fifth Avenue. Sara Anderson arrived from Georgia and told us that she has bought out all the Donut Dinettes and has changed their name to Doughnit Dinut. After most of the class had arrived we bombed over to the “Elbow Room” where Arnette Wilder was appearing with Ruth Bulkeley who is now playing progressive jazz. Beth Robinson and Claire Farley met us there; they had never left Fort Lauderdale after their spring vacation in 1961. Late arrivals included Margaret Holmes and Ginger Huffman. They are now joint Postmasters-General for the United States and they still get hysterical if anyone says, “Did I get any mail?” After the “Elbow Room” we decided to try the beach where we found Betty Sue Bailey and Annette Kovac recovering from explosion burns which they received while teaching Chemistry at Fairfax Hall. Just then an odd creature with leotards and a sweat shirt strolled up and it turned out to be Pat Ellis who has become a beatnik in Greenwich Village. A cable arrived from Winnie Ganskopp and Maggie Mullens saying that they would be late because of another revolution in Venezuela and that Lani Tripp had already left on her raft since it was impossible to get a plane. The two Fairfax Hall representatives to Hollywood appeared surrounded by poodles and mink. Nikki Roth has become internationally famous for her dramatic portrayal of Tinker Bell in ‘“‘Peter Pan’? and Eleanor Watson has become a method actress. Then an invasion from the North occurred. Bonnie Brucker, and Becky Barton arrived together. Becky came from Massachusetts where she has been writing pamphlets on tolerance and equality and then dropping them over Georgia from a plane piloted by Bonnie. Bonnie is an interior decorator on the side and has just finished redecorating the White House where she saw Michele Carrico, the Chairman of the Republican National Committee. 90 Class Prophecy Annalee Griswold, who received the Pulitzer Prize for her collection of bedtime stories, arrived with Mimi Lord, who has finally succeeded in her life-long ambition to be a playgirl. Then we stumbled across Janie Chapman and Kay Pippin in the sand; they are collaborating on a new book on child behavior. They should be experts since each of them has several children. Ceci Clover waved at us from a ship on which she had just returned from her eighth trip around the world. For some reason the authorities would not let her get off the boat. Also on the beach we saw Nancy Mitchell who has had great success in Hawaii modeling muu-muus. Nancy gave us the news about Betty Lind Frederickson who is working in a mental institution where she keeps mumbling “I can’t do it.” She grows apples on the side. Peggy Findley and Peggy Chalmers seemed the most contented of the whole class. Fig has finally found a wonder drug which makes her gain weight. Un- fortunately it got out of hand and now she can’t stop. Peggy Chalmers has found a pill that has enabled her to reach her desired height of 5’ 2”. Back at the hotel we found Beverley Bush and Linda Motley who claimed that the fresh air was too much for them and they wouldn’t go to the beach. Beverley is now a housemother at Fishburne and Linda has become headmistress of Dover Military Academy with the announced purpose of livening Dover up. Among the many people in our class who have received honors, every- one agreed that Alice Jameson did the best. She received the National Award of Honor for killing the most people with looks. Penny Coll said that she had been elected Miss Teddybear of 1971 by her kindergarten class and her husband. Another famous figure was Claire Eby who had been nationally acclaimed for her calm, cool nerves when discovering a body. Her only comment was, “Christian, you'll never believe this.” Pat Fribush appeared in her hula skirt and said that she had been chosen Miss Hawaii where she now teaches Hula dancing. Sandy Rhead and Fran Fulghum arrived complete with casts and bandages. They are now teaching riding classes with emphasis on “how to bounce when you fall.” Ellie Felburn, also a horsewoman, told us that she had become the first woman member of the Canadian Mounted Police. With them was Nancy Shepard, who has just completed her new book, “The Merits of Private Schools.” The very last class members to arrive were Kitty Turk and Kathie Shull who are now joint owners of a motel business. Their only complaint was the broken beds which had been damaged by jumping. We have a very busy schedule because ever since 1961 when that movie about spring vacation in Fort Lauderdale was shown in Waynesboro we have all been dying to come to get our suntans, and now that we have drivers’ licenses we must go to the “Elbow Room” again. Of course, if there do happen to be some boys here none of the class of ’61 will mind. As a matter of fact, we are on our way to see if the boys down the hall who are having that party really are from Yale. 91 eee Pies Le 53 [ ® oe 8 STUDENT ASSOCIATION 5 PUBLICATIONS 7 Seated: Younger, Miss Willis, Miss Bruce, Lord Standing: Greene, Watson, Findley, Mullens, Anderson Fairfax Hall Student Association OFFICERS MIMI CORD 2s eee ee pete eee a ae ae ee ek ee President SARA” ANDERSON 2ccasccge ees sins hc fae ao ae ee hs ee Vice President PEGGY .
