For the seniors, it marks the end of high school days, and for the underclassmen it is one step closer to their graduation. We, the Staff of the 1958 CHAIN AND ANcHors, hope this yearbook will serve as a reminder of all the good times we have had at Fairfax Hall. If it reminds you of all the little things that made 1958 so wonderful for all of us, we shall consider ours a job well done. contents the school... organizations... athletics... features he school administration WILLIAM BENJAMIN GATES, SR. Peering inside, I see Pat Terry, chief wife of the harem, explaining to the king what people are like in America. What’s that book she’s showing him? Chain and Anchors ’58. Oh, now I see, she’s using her senior class to explain to the king about Americans. She’s so wrapped up in memories that I find myself fading into the pictures of the annual with It’s twenty years later—1978 — Andy Bacon is now owner of the world-famous Andrea Perot Dress Shop and the proud mother of five children. The next photograph is of Katurah Bacon who has just been the first to swim the English Channel singing ““The Star Spangled Banner.”’ Oh yes, there’s Jo Ann Barron at Hialeah Race Track. Wonder which horse won today? Mary Beth Beach is in another wedding—heaven knows, before long she’ll be too busy for her own. Let’s see, she’s turning the page—Judy Belt—last I heard she was President of a soft drink bottling company. Alice Brizdle just left me. She’s touring Europe. There’s Lynda Bryan settled down with Jim in the hills of Kentucky. The last picture on that page is Pat Carr, now sometimes called a second Einstein by the U.S. A. F. Marcia Cohen is now a resident of Hawaii and can be found sunning under the palms almost every day. Under Marcia’s picture is Julie Courtney’s. The day I left the states she had just been appointed the head doctor at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Next is Pat DiMauro, now a consul to France—Parlez- vous francais? Zannie Dowling has just given her home to the Georgia Chapter of SAE for their new fraternity house. Elizabeth Duerson is next and, from the latest rumor, she’s having a grand time on her cruise around the world. Sue Edmondson—oh yes, the first woman ever to be admitted to the Naval Hall of Fame. Next is Susie Evans whose picture can be seen on the cover of most of the current magazines. Mimi Flynn is known throughout the U. S. as the owner of the famous show horse, Flanco’s Fatal Fascination. Sandy Fullington’s jolly humor is known world wide today for she’s training the U. S. Olympic Basketball team. Again she turns the page and there’s Kay Gardner who is now secretary to the Governor of Virginia. Judi Gearhart and her John are now quite happy living a navy life. Susie Goldstein is now away from Georgia and has taken 42 residence in the big city—New York! Last on that page is Nancy Guthrie who can be found almost any day in the blue skies flying her plane. There’s Anne Heaner who has just recently joined Marcia in Hawaii and is now teaching hula dancing. Under Anne’s picture is one of June Hoch- wald, the proud owner of one of the best beauty salons in America. Carolyn Keister heads the next page, and well she should, for she heads the sports column in each morning’s paper. Marty Larcombe is now in the process of publishing a lovely pamphlet for America’s Lonely Hearts from Warrenton, Va. The next photograph is of Sheila Macfarlane now quite well-known in Havana, Cuba. As the page turns, there is Sharon McCoy who can be found in the Heart of Dixie, Birmingham, Alabama, now a married woman, but still a staunch supporter of Auburn. Carolyn Merrill’s picture is next. She can usually be found somewhere on the V. M. I. campus, as she is married to the commandant. Pat again turns the page and Dottie Nelson smiles forth. I hear she’s Just received a patent on a liquid product called ““Your Eyebrows from a Bottle.’” Nelda Nordberg, so I hear, has returned to the land of her ancestors —Sweden. Can you ski yet, Ned? Barbara Page is still in sunny Florida. Spends most of her time riding I understand. Loren Phipps our Home-Ec. gal has now become President of the Betty Crocker Company. Fay Pliescott is one of the best shots in the country and [’]] bet she can out-fish anyone of us, too. [he next picture is of Kay Rothschild. I understand that she’s follow- ing the basketball schedule quite closely this year. Next is Katy Sheridan. Poor Mr. Sheridan was done out of his job on Good Housekeeping by his daughter just last week. Bonnycastle Smith is still down in Panama counting the ships as they go through the canal. Ann Todd has just won the title of ‘““World’s Champion Tennis Player.” Gretchen Van Aken is the top picture on the next page and, in case you're wondering where she is now, just go to your local theater and look toward the screen. Turning the page, there is Elaine Whiteley way up in New Jersey, water-skiing every weekend. Joanne Wicke can be found in Hollywood designing sets for the latest movies. Next is Diane Yeatman who graduated from Duke Nursing School some years ago. Well, here is the last picture--Mary Zelenz, who is now a nurse in Yankee Land. The present slowly returns as the king settles back and Pat closes the annual. She seems to realize that the years have changed our classmates, but for us the year 1958 will never change for our memories will go on forever. 43 iJ ? = S ae A = = M. C.
