WN I 3 S ifN ' Education is the essence of a democratic society. The strength of a democratic nation is based on several qualities, the most impor- tant of which is the character and quality of its citizenry. Recognizing this fact, Americans are becoming increasingly conscious of the de- cisive role of the school in the Nation's future. In spite of appreciable educational progress in recent years, the United States is today faced with maior school problems, of which one of the most pressing is adequate school facilities. Some significant factors causing increased and imperative demands for more adequate school facilities are: UD increasing and shift- ing of populations, 125 an expanding and changing program, C31 a backlog of needs, and CAD reorganization of school districts. A typical example of such reorganization is the Fairchance-Georges Joint School System. Under this program many of the older build- ings which were designed for the traditional school are now obsolete, and need to be re- placed with modern facilities or completely remodeled. The school program is expanding and its expanded activities and services demand more space and facilities. When the school program is completed in the Fairchances Georges Joint System, thousands of dollars will be spent on remodeling and construction. JESSE FRANKS HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL The first thing a graduate of Fairchance High School says to a Georges student is, You'll like 'Mr. Franks', he's swell. The class of '59 heartily agrees with that state- ment. To us there is no principal of any school who has the warmth, hurnanness, kindness, and the humor of Mr. Franks. We will always greatly cherish our association with him. Pretty figures, figuring. Barbara Ann Marano and Jean Schreckengost
