He touched our lives with his. He was a part of our lives That no one can ever take away. -P. Schroeder John Ulfers was a guy that we'll remember in many different ways. He was tall and good looking, although certainly not well-dressed, with hair that curled out all over and an irresistable smile. He was bright and a lot of fun and had a crazy sense of humor and a lot of friends. He could be aggravatingly blunt or unbelievably sensitive. He liked cars, the outdoors, girls, and farming (but not necessarily in that order). He always made sure he enjoyed life. 4 Your friends are not dead, but gone before, advanced a stage or two upon that road, Which you must travel in the steps they trod. -Aristopanes Karen was an energetic girl with many goals in mind. She was a member of GAA and Flag Corps. Her hobbies were riding around and going swimming. Her days were never boring; she always had something to do. We remember her in almost everything we do. We will cherish the memories of her and will hold them in our hearts forever as we travel the roads before us. S Jeff Stiver In Sweden From July '73 to July '74 Jeff Stiver of Fairbury, became a resident of Goteborg Sweden. While living with the family of Boel and Mikael Fagerstrom, Jeff attended school at the Siegreid Rudebeck's Gymnasium. He majored in a sociology line and trained in Aikido, a Swedish form of self defense. Highlights of Jeff's stay in Sweden were: belonging to Goteborg's AikidoKlubb, playing Dean Martin in a winter show, and meeting the Prime Minister and King of Sweden. Much of Jeff's leisure time was spent with his girlfriend Kerstein Haugen, but he did find time to stay one week in Norway and to visit Andres Wallen-tine. Andres, who was an A.F.S. student to Fairbury during the '73-'74 year, lived only 20 miles from Jeff. Though living in Sweden was a great experience, Jeff admitted that the sight of his family and friends was a happy one. 8 Bob Nussbaum In Argentina Bob Nussbaum, the son of the Robert Nussbaums of Fairbury, lived on the dry, flat plains of Formosa, Argentina from June '74 to August '74 as a result of the Americans Abroad program. His family included his father Miguel, a printer and English teacher; his mother Lola, a secretary and history teacher; and a brother, Miguel. Bob attended the National School in Formosa half days. Bob gained self-discipline from participating in the community-sponsored activities of soccer and rugby, which resembles our football. Language wasn't a barrier in social activities. Music, dance, and nightclubs all set the scene for a festive attitude. Bob, who is majoring in Business Management at Eastern Illinois University, found his areas of interest expanded as a result of his summer experience. He was, though, glad to return to the smiling faces of his friends and family. 9 Lyn Emmett Of Australia Lyn Emmett joined our student body in August '74 as an AFS student from Melbourne, Australia. She resided with the Lloyd Wells' of Fairbury. In Australia, Lynn participated in girl's netball, played the piano, danced jazz ballet, and served on student council. Here she was involved in chorus and student council. Color TV and snow impressed Lyn the most about U.S. While here she found giving AFS speeches enjoyable. After departing from Fairbury, Lyn journeyed to San Francisco, Hawaii, New Zealand and then home to her parents and three brothers in Australia. The Kangaroo Became Lyn’s Trademark After Her Vast Distribution Of Golden Kangaroo Pins To Her Friends Marcelo Martinovic Of Argentina Marcelo Martinovic, from Puerto Deseado, Argentina, is a member of a family of six including his parents, two brothers, a sister, and himself. The Don Paterson family was host to Marcelo during his stay in the United States. When in Puerto Deseado, he enjoyed playing soccer, volleyball, and beach combing. In America, Marcelo liked color TV, tennis, and football. In fact, Marcel's most exciting experience was participating in Tartar football in which his kicking ability proved to be a great asset. From Fairbury Marcelo traveled to Washington, D.C., New York, Miami, Peru, Chili, and then home to Argentina. One Of Marcelo's Favorite Pastimes While In The U.S. Was Perfecting The Art Of Girl Watching FACULTY 14 Standing Left to Right: Ivan Stoller, Rueben Huber, Ken Broquard, Paul Hoffman, Lester Miller, Jerry Schahrer. ISAACS During the school year, Mr. Isaacs and Mr. Mildred strove for better student understanding by trying to find what the students' interests were. They tried to accomplish this by having class meetings which were to enable the students to express their views on various school matters and the present administration. Even though Mr. Isaacs is leaving we will appreciate the contributions and efforts he made. 15 MISS PIKE, Math MRS. LANCASTER, French MRS. DAVENPORT, English MR. LANCASTER, English MR. Homecoming Excitement Homecoming Spirit Week got underway with the traditional Chain Link contest and the Neck-Orange races sponsored by the Student Council. Other activities gave students a chance to test their skills at lemon eating, kite flying, and water chugging. Connie Haas was crowned by the past queen, her sister, Cheryl Grace. The coronation ceremony this year was held separately from the dance. This year's pep rally included skits, speeches, and pep band and featured the antics of male cheerleaders, Tom Schahrer, Mike Wenger, Kevin Mowery, and Don Hammond. The Junior Class took first place honors in the float competition, followed by the Senior Class with second and the Junior High with third. An impressive Tartar victory (49-28) over the Octavia Rockets highlighted the week. Homecoming '75 closed to the music of the group. It is about a young school teacher who tried to reach her students but finds it isn't as easy as she thought. This play, directed by Mrs. Gayle Davenport, is an example of a kind funny that hurts. The theme of the 1975 Jr.-Sr. Prom was Rendevous With the Stars. Prom night started with the banquet and the reading of the will and prophecy at Lincoln Auditorium. Bittersweet provided music for the dance which was held at the Indian Creek Country Club. The After-Prom party was also held at the Country Club with music provided by the Jukebox. A memorable evening was had by all who attended. eetheart Ball SO I131H1V Tartars Tie For Second The 1974-1975 football season proved to be fast moving and exciting as the Tartars pulled together excellent records. The varsity Tartars, under the leadership of Coach Ayres and the co-captains Mike Kelson and Steve Crews, tied for second place in the Sangamon Valley Conference, with a win-loss record of 7-2. Coach Beyers and the junior varsity Tartars worked hard to gain a perfect win-loss record of 4-0. Hopefully, both varsity and junior varsity teams will show as much spirit and determination in the years to come as they did this year. The season's record was 4-19, with Mark McCue leading the way for the team at district and being the sole Tartar at the sectional meet this year. With four members graduating this year, the squad will need to work with a lot of new people next year, but hopes are high as there are five returning lettermen to help out. Along with the loss of the seniors we lost our coach. Coach Ayres left us a wrestling team that has a lot of spirit and good training for a new coach with which to work. 75 Hey Ref. did ya see that? The girls opened their season with a big win against Dwight and ended with win-loss records of 10-3; A team, 3-6; B team. Coach Jan Freadhoff and her team entered the El Paso Volleyball District Tournament as the topseated team and finished district champs. In the first match of the tournament, Fairbury went up against Lexington beating them in 2 games 15-11 and 15-12. The girls then took on Flanagan who had beaten them only weeks before. The match ended with Fairbury on top, 15-8, 16-18, 15-3. At the sectional meet in Hoopston, the team beat Wat-seka, 15-11, 7-16, and 15-6. But against Marselles, the girls appeared to abandon their customary game plan of set-and-spike and were eliminated from the competition. Final scores were 4-15 and 8-15. Basically an underclassmen squad, the girls finished being one of the top 32 teams in the state. Captains were Soph. Sue Huber, B team, and Senior Alma Meister, A team.
