Rosita Qhares Her Love and Life With Fairbury ». The American Field Service Program, in an effort to promote brotherhood and understanding among countries, gives foreign students the opportunity to live in America and learn of different lifestyles and cultures. Rosita Ximena Jara Galdames, our ninth AFS student, came to Fairbury from Los Andes, Chile, where she lives with her parents. Rosita’s American home was with the George Fyke family. At FCHS Rosita participated in the school activities which included G.A.A., Math Club, Chorus, Student Council, National Honor Society, and the ADVOCATE, for which she wrote the series “Life in Chile.” Rosita, who was active on the gymnastics team and drama group in Chile, also enjoyed attending football and basketball games and school dances, and working in her spare time at The Cornbelt Publishing Company. She had the opportunity to visit Chicago and Springfield. When Rosita was asked what she enjoyed the most about her stay in the U.S. she replied, “I really enjoyed the AFS weekend, my job at the Blade, school dances, being a member of chorus, and just those good times being with my friends and family!
