IN MEMORIAM Mrs. Martha Carty Mrs. Carty's soft eyes twinkled and her soft voice flowed; She was good; She was kind, a memory to be endeared. Georgia had beautiful hair and a sweet disposition That touched everyone far or near. Laughter lost a true companion in the person of John, Tall and athletic and warm and sincere. They will live forever and endure. For love is eternal and keeps them They touched our lives for a few fleeting minutes; They laughed with us and shouted, and cried, and prayed; We smiled and lived our lives together; They left, but in our hearts they stayed. DEDICATION “To be a good American is the most important job that will ever confront you. But essentially it is nothing more than being a good member of your community, helping those who need your help, striving for a sympathetic understanding of those who oppose you, doing each new day's job a little better than the previous day's, placing the common good before personal profit. ’ These words were written about a decade ago by President Eisenhower in An Open Letter to America's Students. Did you have a foreshadowing of these words. Miss Sharp, as you went out into the teaching field0 When you became a member of our community, these words were not yet written, but you have fulfilled them to the letter. Not only have you become a good American citizen, but you have also dedicated your entire life to preparing us students for the role of the good citizens of tomorrow. For the past forty years, you have been a familiar figure in the classrooms of Pairbury High, patiently instilling in students the fundamentals of English and the language arts, teaching us more than that which is written in our books, and helping us achieve our highest goals. We. the Crier Staff of 1960, salute you for your service to our community and school and dedicate the 1960 Crier to you. Miss Mary Sharp. - 7 -
