Modern Halls of Learning Replace the Dingy Labyrinths of The Past The Golden Years, just completed, have wit- nessed a tremendous expansion of the Fairborn School System. Until 1953 Central School had served as a high school. That year marked the opening of our high school presently located on Lincoln Drive. Two years later in 1955 the first addition was made. It included two regular class- rooms; a memorial field house containing a gym- nasium, dressing rooms, and offices; and an ath- letic field for football and track. Then in 1958 came the last addition which increased the educa- tional facilities by twenty-two classrooms, a new and larger cafeteria, one clinic, and one club room. This also included a much needed office for assist- ant principal and counselors. Fairborn High School now contains thirty-nine regular class rooms, nine rooms for special subjects, a clinic, cafeteria, li- brary and numerous offices. The reason for this expansion was the ever in- creasing enrollment. Opening enrollment, which was 300 in 1950, reached an all time high of 7074 in 1959. Since Fairborn High School is largely de- pendent upon Wright-Patterson A.F.B. for enroll- ment many of these students come from all parts of the globe. H. K. Baker, Superintendent of Fairborn Schools tion, principal and assistant principal of the high school, speech and hearing therapists, school psy- chologist, and the supervisor of music. With increased enrollment comes the em- ployment of new teachers. In 1950 Fairborn High School employed twenty-two teachers. Today this number, which has more than doubled, includes a faculty of forty-nine. The figures for the faculty do not include the administrative personnel. Members of the administration include the city superintendent of schools, director of instrue - We can expect many changes in the coming decade, not only in Science and Math but in cul- ture and art, which will add many new duties to the administrators and Board of Education. To these fine men and women who so un- selfishly serve us, we pay tribute to their vision, wisdom, initiative and ingenuity in solving the ever new problems that confront them. Board of Education Mrs. Betty McCann, Clerk of the Board, Mr. Fred Kauffman, Mr. John Myer, Mrs. Catherine Crowford, Mr. Robert Kneisley, President of the Board—Mr. William Stroutman (absent).
