What Do I Miss Most About The Good Old Days Many teachers responded in various ways and some helped us re-capture the old days by giving us a glimpse into the future. Some of the pictures on the following pages are of the teachers themselves and some are of their children. We hope you will enjoy this addition. Respect for authority and adults! . . . Geraldine Garner Street cars, no air pollution and you knew exactly where you were going . . . Bettie Pharis I miss the students who could enroll in school without first having to go to the office and pay for a lost book or some other fine . . . Mary Sprawls Respect . . . Syble Hatcher Friendliness and courtesy. Also a sincere interest by the students in obtaining the best education possible. They took as many difficult and challenging courses as they could. Today the seniors care to have only the minimum credits required for graduation. So therefore many students graduate with no marketable skills. No one wants to give them a job and they are very poorly equipped to go to college ... Jo Allen Time to know people . . . Reggie Reynolds Courtesy and respect for each individual. A warm type of friendliness and humaneness . . . Daisey Whittaker The old-fashioned summers of my country childhood . . . Gloria Blakney Students with a desire to learn . . . Vernon Humble Having to carry my own water bottle . . . Ken Howard Once arrived at Fair Park, the good old days are here again . . . Mr. Hayes Nothing . . . Barbara Gewin Playing high school basketball . . . Johnnie Gamer I miss the various activities that I participated in at Southern University as an undergraduate . . . Phyllis Garner Big while house with front porch swings and the conversations that held families together, people no longer have time to listen to each other . . . Martha Christian Cheap prices . . . Mrs. Clark The students' attitude in school and in education . . .Mr. Bunch Being able to eat a hot fudge sundae and not worry about calories, paying $1.50 to go to the movie, Mickey Mouse Club and Howdy Doody, wish my daughter could watch these . . . Debi Alexander Yes, the college days were the good old days. I miss sitting around talking with my friends after classes were over. We really had fun just being around each other. Now we have graduated and all gone separate ways . . . Glenda Allen My senior year in High School when 1 hated to depart from my friends . . . Johnnye Green Moving at a slower pace and less noise . . . Mary Atkisson Happy shining faces . . . Tip Akins My youth . . . Gerald Ressinger The good oT days . . . Primous Howard Optimism about the future . . . Paula Johns Oh, I could really enjoy making high grades and harassing the teachers, or taking test and allowing my friends to copy the wrong answer . . . Jasper Jordan Good assemblies, school spirit, everyone proud of their school and doing their best . . . Alice Knost The Bad ol days” . . . John Kelly 50 cokes from coke machines . . . Carol Mclnnis Nickel ice-cream cones” . . . Maxine Mayo Can-cans, candy bars for 50 and the good times in the band . . . Beatrice Maxile The good opinion and concern students used to demonstrate toward their school and their own personal educational development . . . Col. Malone Europe . . . John Mulloy 290 a gallon gasoline . . . Bettye Mitchell I miss drawing water from the well and taking a bath in a wash tub in the kitchen . . . Pardue Annual field day activities . . . Nettie Pamplin Lower prices, good movies ... Pat Paul The respect for tradition and the quiet peaceful limes . . . Lynda Phillips Time to relax and enjoy life at a leisurely pace rather than rush, rush constantly . . . Linda Singley Stockings with seams, once 1 learned to keep them straight they went out of style . . . Dorothy Strawder Although I would not really like to relive those good ol days I do sometimes miss the carefree, innocent, fun-filled world of my tomboy days . . . Margaret Thompson Can-cans and The Platters” . . . Jean Ware Fast cars and cheap gas . . . Ronnie Warren More than anything I miss the good family get togethers and the less hectic life when friends and relatives could visit often. The large family gatherings provided a closeness with cousins, aunts, and uncles, etc. that I may not win a D.E. award but I sure am cute. Right? I'm trying to teach English the best I can. How can I balance books and stay on this horse at the same time? The Old And When I grow up I'm going to take kids to the opera whether they want to go or not. Everybody needs to read a book once a week, right? Pooey on Home Ec, just bring on the groceries. 50 That's my mommy on the left, not as cute as me though. I don’t want to be on Mom- my's Pow Wow staff, what- ever that is. Hot Dog! I'm so glad I'm not teaching American History or Civics like mommy. Maybe if I wear this pretty dress to school I can become Pow Wow sponsor. When I grow up I'm going to teach English. The New Faculty Do I look like a goofy Psychology teacher? It Works When you stop and think about your day-to-day life, you probably spend more time communicating - and being communicated with - than any other single activity. The textbooks you read, your teachers' classroom presentations and, for that matter, all of educa- tion is really just communications. Add to that newspapers and magazine, radio and television, your conversations with friends and the letters you write and we think you'll agree that communica- tions is a big part of your life. And . . . don't forget the telephone. If you’re at all like most students, you probably spend at least an hour each day communicating by telephone with your friend. Chances are, the telephones you use each day were made right here. The Shreveport Works makes over five million a year for South Central Bell and the other Bell System telephone companies. Bell Laboratories designs them. We build them. The Bell telephone companies install and keep them working. We're all part of a team - the Bell System team - working together to bring you and your friends the best in telephones and telephone service. 295 Western Electric In Memoriam Martha Fain Harbison -A- BRADY ADAMS - Speech Club •75, '76, '77; FBLA '77: Stu- dent Council Senator '77; Young American Society '77; ROTC '75, '76, '77. There was a great deal of work involved in the project and I would like to thank the staff for doing their part. Thanks are in accordance for the patience and understanding shown by Mrs. Paula Johns our Yearbook Spon- sor. Also the helping hand given by Mr. Chuck Fowler, our publishing company representa- tive , will not be forgotten. It has been a pleasure to capture the action forever on paper. As each of us looks back on the way things were, I hope this book will bring back those cherished memories. Remember once again, a yearbook never forgets. 3 306
