4 Be careful which dream you clutch . . . for dreams come true! Joan Walsh Anglund 5 Memory has many hollows . . . Let me hide in one. Robert Louis Stevenson n 13 14 ••7773 Sw ' This year, the SEQUOYAH Staff had the pleas- ure of choosing two Seniors to represent them in the SEQUOYAH. These two people must have served Fair Park for three years and have outstand- ing character traits. This year, the SEQUOYAH Staff of 1976 takes great pleasure in presenting Mr. and Miss Fair Park, Mark Hopper and Therisa Callier. Mark has indeed contributed much to the life of Fair Park. For three years he has been a manager for the football team and has played on the tennis team. He has participated in many activities including Latin Club, Speech Club, Key Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Indians for Christ, COD AC, and Fellowship of Christian Ath- letes. Mark’s contributions to the POW-WOW began his Junior year as a reporter. His Senior year he served as Sports Editor. Mark has been involved in Student Council since his Sophomore year. His first two years at Fair Park, he served as a Senator. During his Sen- ior year, he has willingly given of himself and presided as President of Student Council. Therisa has shown herself to be a necessary and indispensable pan of Fair Park. She has been very active since her Sophomore year, including par- ticipation in Pep Squad, Young American Soci- ety, Student Council, French Club, Band Flag Corps, Honor Society, and An Club. During her Junior year, Therisa represented her fellow students by serving as Junior Class Presi- dent. Fair Park was proud when Therisa became a Supreme Court Justice and State Commissioner of Insurance at Pelican's Girls’ State. Therisa has continued her outstanding leadership during her Senior year by serving as Senior Class President. 17 Linden Bethune Teneatha Holloway Senior Favorites Junior Favorites Huey Sloan Jonetta Allen 20 Freshman Favorites Carl Belton Lisa Hill 21 22 Senior Maid —Joyce Mann Senior Maid —Juana Walker 24 Junior Maid---Sheree Hughes Junior Maid — Stacey Thompson Sophomore Maid — Purdetha Primus Freshman Maid — Fadoshia (iav 25 Princess Ronda Baronette Prince Gary Oliver Mardi Gras 1976 Queen Florida Mosley King Jackie Hudson Susie Barnhill and Philip Sipes Beverly Snow and Daniel Jones Senior Lords and Ladies Junior Lords and Ladies Shelia Alexander and Howell Ealy Jonetta Allen and Bobby Hall 27 Purdetha Primus and Emmett Welch Sophomore Lord and Lady Brenda Walker and Carl Belton Freshman Lord and Lady Master of Ceremonies I aDarien Spencer Court Jester Cynthia Keith 28 Diane White Crown Bearer Therisa Collier Some of Our Entertainment 29 Senior Beauty — Susie Barnhill Senior Beauty — Joyce Mann Senior Beauty — Glenda Carmack Senior Bcautv — Diane Rhodes 31 Junior Beauty —Jonetta Allen Junior Beauty — Shelia Alexander Freshman Beauty — Brenda W alker 33 34 Head Cheerleader Theresa Mitchell Big Indian David Cox 39 Battalion Commander David Cox Louisiana Girls’ And Boys’ State 1975 Ruby Mason Renee Rucker John Doolittle 41 National Honor Society Thensa Cal lier liene Kuttlc President Juana W alker V iee-President Suzanne Coles Pitty Cathey Nancy Ililler Charise Ives V to t r Cleveland lane Kill Mason Treasurer Melanie Dunn John Doolittle Tina Kstill Shneese Smith Sallie Spence Janet Wong 43 44 In CONGRESS. The 2nd round playoff loss closed the Indians out at 9 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie on the season. The Indian Coaches Head Coach Jimmy Orton and his staff can be described as winners. The Indian staff is undoubtedly one of the best in the city. It has been defeated in only one game in the past two seasons by another city opponent and that was last year. After a season opening setback in El Dorado. Orton rallied his Indians to a state ranking of 3rd and closed the season ranked 4th in the state. He won 9 in a row. For the second year in a row Orton fielded basi- cally a strong running team with complimentary passing. At times it was carried by its awesome Wrecking Crew 11” defense, which was statistically the best in the city, thanks mainly to coaches Alex- ander, Burns, and Kelley. The coaches' ability to teach their players is illus- trated by the number of Indians selected to all-dis- trict and all-city teams. Good players are a result of high-class, hard-working, disciplined, quality coaches. For his achievements, Orton was cited by his peers as Coach of the Year in District 1-AAAA. 178 THE INDIAN COACHES: KNEELING: John Kelly, Ronnie Alexander, Ronnie Burns.
