CLARENCE FOWLER Sponsor C.L. LOFTIN SHOE SHOP 40 RUSSELL COMAN Class Hisfory 32-8-60, no, that isn't right. This is how we, the class of 1961 began our high school years—trying to remember the right combination for our lockers and where to be and when. Mr. Dunning, Mrs. Hedrick, and Mr. Garrison were there to be sure that we didn't get lost too often. As the first days and weeks dragged on, we began to wonder if we would ever make it through those next four years. There were so many different tasks about being a freshman and getting used to high school life. Our sponsors helped us through those dark days and then things began to look up. Basketball came along and several of our freshman girls were able to play. Serving at the Junior-Senior banquet was quite a thrill and proved to increase our interest in school. After we had suffered through mid-term and final exams we were ready for three months rest. September 1958, now Sophomores, we trooped back with renewed strength. We were fewer in number but greater in spirits. Mr. Hoyle, Mrs. Hall, and Mr. Hall were there to help us when the going got rough. This year minus the pleasure of combination locks we spent most of our time writing Biology term papers and doing Algebra. Basketball, football, serving again at the Junior-Senior, and the wonderful parties seemed to give us the interest and energy to make it through exams and another year. Would you like to buy a magazine? Our magazine drive got our Junior year off to a good start. This project was to raise money so we would be able to give the Seniors a banquet. Typing and Spanish were our problems this year but Mrs. Payne and Mrs. Lyndon, our sponsors, helped make them a little easier and a little more fun. Under the direction of Mrs. Hedrick, we planned our Junior-Senior. April 8, 1960, Cinderella relived her magic night. There was eating, dancing, and then the crowning of Cinderella and Prince Charming, who were Margaret Grubb and Jerry Little. 1960, well, here we are—Seniors. It doesn't seem possible, but it's really here; Macbeth and all. Our goal of being a Senior has been achieved but we have more goals to meet. A trip to Washington is in our plans and it will take work to get there. With the help of our Senior sponsor, Mrs. Fowler, we feel that we can easily reach this goal. Some of our other goals won't be so easy to reach—college, business school, nurse's training, a success in business, or just a plain good citizen are things that will take more years of hard work. Those next four years seem now like only a few days. There just hasn't been enough time to spend with our friends, with our teachers, or on our work. If we had these past four years to do over we would like to do them differently and yet we wouldn't want to change a thing. Fair Grove High School has been a wonderful experience for everyone who has ever attended it and we aren't any different. Thank you, Fair Grove, Mr. Kearns, and faculty, for making our school years so wonderful. Forgive us for our mistakes and the times we played when we should have worked. Fair Grove will always be in our hearts. 41 Class Prophecy If you'd like to look into the seeds of time, And see what will become of the classmates of mine, Listen then to me as I prophesy, The fate of the last senior class of Fair Grove High. Some achieved new wealth or fame, Others remained very much the same. FREIDA decided to move near a monastery, It seems there was a monk she wanted to marry. RITA ALEXANDER put her wit and knowledge to good use, She's now teaching the first grade at a school in Massuchusetts. ZENNIE is also teaching, but in the sunshine state, She says her girls' Physical Ed class is really great. BARNEY now edits a newspaper in New York, And says his reporter LONNIE is doing very fine work. DARRELL turned out to be a top notch mechanic, He services the bus DOLAN drives from the Pacific to the Atlantic. ESTON now runs several used car lots, While ROBERT and LARRY handle the air traffic as pilots. You know how much SONNY SWAIM always liked to debate, Well, he's now arguing as a politician all over the state. GARY who was voted Most Likely to Succeed, Is now a congressman and has proved his ability great indeed. Since elected President VERNON is quite a busy man, Of course he receives some help from Vice-President SONNY WESTMORELAND. JEEP gained fame for setting an all-time pace, And used it to win the well-known Darlington Race. BARBARA KINDLEY is now known as the worlds' best twirler, I guess her position as chief majorette really meant a lot to her. CLELL moved to Reno and opened a night club of bliss, JERRY BYERLY handles his gambling tables like a whiz. ROCKY is kept busy fighting off his fans, As he travels over the U.S. with his rock-n-roll band. JUDY has her record of dependability to thank, For her present job at the First National Bank. DONALD is now an important business man, And has his own private secretary, DIANNE. SAUNDRA owns a fashion shop on 5th Avenue. Where GENELLE and JACKIE model clothes for tall girls and help design them too. NANCY having finished an Ashmore Business Course, Is head bookkeeper for a chain of Stamey Stores. ROSA is now a hostess for Trans World Airlines, And with her smile and personality is doing fine. CHARLES turned to a career no one expected, He leads an exciting life as a private detective. JERRY LAMBETH has become a great Methodist preacher, While his friend AUSTIN helps him as the mens' Sunday School teacher. JOYCE now has her own beauty parlor, MAXINE serves as receptionist and books appointments for her. EDGAR opened a shoe store selling only ladies shoes, (I wonder what remarks this brought from Cinda Lou.) Do you remember STARLET and CAROLYN, our two new girls? As Navy nurses they now tour the world. LOUISE also chose a military career, She's really enjoying life as a WAVE, so I hear. FREDDY has made quite a career of writing fiction, Publisher HINES HUNT gave his books a great deal of recognition. Mrs. Fowler always said DAVID had a wav of getting an answer, He's put that ability to use now as a famous lawyer. MARTHA a foreign correspondent came to be, She keeps in touch with LINDA who's now working at the library. Walt Disney is still famous and we're proud to say, Our former classmate, BARBARA SCARLETT, heads his art department of today. WAYNE never definitely said what he wanted to be, But he recently graduated from college with a doctor's degree. And I, RITA HEDRICK, finally reached my aim, I'm coaching football at Notre Dame. But you'll never guess what I was told by policeman J.C. HILL, Mrs. Fowler finally quit teaching and got a job at the mill! 42 RITA HEDRICK Class Prophetess Key Notes MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Zennie Rollins and Gary Watford NEATEST Freida Albright and Freddy Wright MOST POPULAR Rita Hedrick and Donald Gallimore WITTIEST Rita Alexander and Clell Snider 'V ? ■« ' ' -; I $? $. 1111 PRETTIEST and MOST HANDSOME Rosa Haire and David Workman Key BEST ALL AROUND Rita Hedrick and Vernon Parrish Notes MOST DEPENDABLE Judy Hightower and Vernon Parrish MOST VERSATILE Zennie Rollins and Donald Gallimore 1 £ ' ; -i m - i H %' i £ ■ SS- ? 1H y.- .at:- ■ mM. v wmmwS® 1£S £ £38 kM mm iai i i ____ ®s-'«sr-r“ - «i; -,; ' • • .w i ■■■ MOST ATHLETIC Rita Hedrick and Donald Gallimore MOST STUDIOUS Rita Alexander and Gary Watford MOST COURTEOUS Barbara Kindley and Vernon Parrish MOST TALENTED Rita Hedrick and George Swaim jm dm £ Jfc j§ ft j S' 1.
