OUR MONUMENT TO FAIR GROVE We will build a monument, Firm and reaching toward the sky, An everlasting monument For Fair Grove High, We will find materials, That through the years will be Standing indestructable until eternity. We will build it of the truth, Which time cannot destroy, For we will build it of the lives Of each Fair Grove girl and boy, We will pass through life, in knowing That in each deed are we, Building the foundation of a monument to be. Thus, we will build a monument To Fair Grove High, An everlasting monument, One that will never die, To succeed through life's endeavors, Will ever be our aim, Because our years at Fair Grove Were not filled with loss, but gain! Nancy Copple Sponsored by CLEGG'S BAKERY CLASS HISTORY A thunder storm? No! but fifty-three strong, robust freshmen came bursting through Mrs. Kenneth Murphy's and Mr. Bill Garrison's classroom doors on Septem- ber 4, 1951. Like all other classes of Fresh- men we seemed to think that the entire high school belonged to us. but, after many trips to Mr. Kearns' office we learned it was to be shared with three other grades. Dur- ing this year we settled down quite a bit and we are proud to boast that several girls and boys played on Fair Grove's basketball team. Still striving toward new goals we en- tered Mr. john Cox's tenth grade with a much smaller group, but a strong determi- nation that we would not be stopped. But we did hit a snag when we were handed our biology books for the first time. This sub- ject, as many others, required a great deal of studying. After many class parties, wiener roasts, and Mr. Cox still declaring that we were the noisest class he had ever had, we moved up another step. Again Mrs. Kenneth Murphy was called upon, but this time alone, to guide the jun- ior Class in the right direction and to help us raise much needed funds. One of the most exciting moments of our entire junior year was on the morning of April 1, 1954. On this date we received our long-awaited class rings. Naturally there were no more lessons that day, with new rings to show. Another exciting experience for us was on April 25, 1954, when a group of scared juniors went on the stage for the first time. XX'e are very proud to boast about our play, DEAR PAPA, a wonderful success, under the direction of Mrs. Eula Ivey. April 50, 1954, was the long-awaited date, the one night to be ours, to be looked back upon as one of the most enjoyable nights we could ever hope to have, The junior-Sem ior Banquet. Although many of us had to work to make our banquet a success, we are looking forward to another year when an- other group will be honoring us. The doors of Fair Grove swung open again September 5, 1954, and twenty-six de- termined Seniors marched into Mrs. Clar- ence Fowler's twelfth grade. Although we are a small group, we have a strong de- termination to go forwardg and we will see Washington in the spring. Many of us have been discouraged but have kept coming back as if there were a magnet drawing us. I guess there is, and this magnet is our love for our school and its surroundings. In twelve years we have never been ashamed of our school and in the many years to follow, we will lift our heads and proudly say, We're from Fair Grove High School. SHELVA MILLER, Class Testator Sponsored by JOHN SEXTON CLASS PROPHECY Hi Shelva, You asked me to send you the news about our classmates of '55 to publish in your newspaper, the New York Times -so here goes. I read a magazine story the other day about Bob Hope's new secretary, Norma Albright, and they're taking in all the night spots. Yes, and I must tell you about Notre Dame's drum major, jimmy Cline-boy, has he got rhythm. Oh! did you hear about the night club Elizabeth and Joyce own? Soft music, cho- rus girls and Chinese food? Paul Lowder has made head coach at Duke and has had a smashing season. Bobby Harris and Kirby Clodfelter have built themselves a factory and are manu- facturing Real Gone Hot Rods. Tinia is really flying high these daysg she is an airplane hostess for Pan-American Air- lines and the pilot happens to be Glenn Pierce. l bet they make a big hit up in the wide blue yonder. Well, it's about time I was telling you about David Plummer's oil business. He's furnishing the majority of the world's oil, and man are those green bills rolling in. Sherrill Floyd is really hitting high ranks these days. He has recently been promoted to a live-star general. I bet you never realized that from the class of '55 would come the world's greatest hair stylist. Yes, it's true, Maxine is now in Paris and is an old-maid millionnaire. Do you remember that bashful Frances Snyder? Well, believe it or not, she is now a big star in Hollywood and I hear she has the men on the go, trying to make her ac- quaintance. Patricia Snider has a big modeling school in Chicago, and is she popular with the Yankees! Billy Lomax is playing guard on the All-American football team. I always thought he would make a great football player. Layton and Ronald are working with the F. B. I. and I hear they have just broken one of the largest narcotics rings in the world. jimmy Newsom is practicing medicine in Florida. I hear he is in demand in every state in the U. S. Frances Hamilton has a music school in Germany and pupils from all over the world go there to study. Shelby Hunt has just signed a 100 years contract with Metropolitan Opera House in New York and the critics say she'l1 be the top soloist. Nancy Copple has become a great poetess. She has just published a series of books and my guess is that she will make history. Ronald Black is president of the General Motors' factory in Chicago. Man! what an easy life. And Dorothy, Ronald Black's wife, is con- tented just to ride around in one of their new Cadillacs. Shelby Proctor tops everything because she has become owner and star of the Ice Capades.
