BROWN ELIAS CARRASCO JAMES CRAIG Back Back Lacking something in luck and power, the Wildcat football tea rn won tive games und lost four in thc- 1951 football s e a s on. Nevertheless, the entire squad exhibited traditional Fabens spiritg and in spite of injuries, the weather, and miscellaneous mishaps, they never gave up. Under the coaching of Lester C. Edwards and his assistant, Harry S. Brown, the Wildcats almost copped the district championship t his year, but they didn't quite have what it took in the last minutes of the Sanderson game, a nd consequently, they ended up in third place of dist r ict com- petition. Final conference standings showed Sanderson at the head of the list w ith five wins and no los s e sg Fort Hancock with thr e e wins, one loss, and one tie, Fabens with three wins and two losses, Van Horn with two wins, one lo s s, and one tie, a nd Grand Falls with one win a nd four losses. Clint was at the bottom of the conference ladder with five losses and no wins. At the end of the season, g r a duating seniors Dick Green, joe Rey, Frank Macias, and Billy Fields tur ne d in their uniformsg but even with this great loss in player strength, the Wildcats are expected to make a real come-back next year. Then the first string came back into the game in the fourth stanza and crossed the double stripe once again. The Lions scored their second touc hd own in the last few minutes of the game on a forward pass c ompletion. The contest ended 19-13 in the Wildcats' favor. PEP RALLIES--SYMPTOM OF THE FOOTBALL SEASON Around the bonfire with its crackle and glow, F.H.S. students dis- played a loud outburst of school spirit at pep rallies during t he foot- ball season. Led in school songs by the cheerleaders, loyal fans met in the evening before each game to urge victory for the Wildcats. And after the last song was sung and the last cheer yelled, the group dis- banded and headed in small parties to the drugstore for cokes and a discussion of the possibilities of the coming game. . . . first day of practice September-1951 T - ,,. A. 9 SPEECH CLUB The chief purpose of the Fabens Speech Club is to foster and promote interest in public speaking. The club seeks to bring together all students interested in the various types of speech, by this means creating a better understanding of the program as a whole. X ,sf of s- 4. D' SCIENCE CLUB The Science Club is organized to assist members in learning s c ie nc e, but because of the size of the group, activities are lim- ited. The local club is a member of the Sci- ence Clubs of America with headquarters in Washington, D.C. To bec ome a member of the Fabens Club, a student must have had, or be taking, some phase of science, chem- istry, biology, physics or general science. Mr. M. W. Benjamin is sponsor. Al f 0 HGME AKING CLUB Sponsored by Mrs. Ruby Worthen, the Future Home- makers of America have as their purpose the fostering of individual interest in the home. Club members cook, sew, learn decorating a nd beauty care, a nd in general prepare the ms e lve s for their future career of home- making. Li vufvq ,, PEP QUAD Both in a nd out of uniform---at pep rallies or at football games, the Pep Squad produced pep and school spirit wherever it marched. Under the di- rection of Miss Wynnell Elliott, the group contributed much to the school year's sports seasons. Appe aling additions to the membership were Mascots Ma 1- y Elizabeth Provencio and Janice Fields who marched right along with the squad. . . . . Oh, to be three again and a pep squad mascot!
