SAM CRESAP JOHNNIE WADSWORTH FRANCES MARCHBANKS CLARENCE BLACK DEBATE Fabens High School realizes that all students graduating should be able to make a speech before an audience. In most schools public speaking is a re- quired subject. Even though the students here have never had any training along that line they were very interested in the debate teams organized and coached by Mr. Quinn The girls team was very successful too, this being their first year. They won at the county and represented El Paso County in the district meet at Alpine. The boys team represented Fabens High School at the county meet. Much interest and work was shown by these debaters, and they are to be complimented and honored as they were the first to represent Fabens High School in debate. Wfe hope now that this new work is started it will con- tinue in interest and success. PAGE SIXTY-THREE

FABENS SPELLING TEAMS Every year some of spelling teams win some of the spell- ing championships. This year it was the Sub-Juniors who did so well. They won first and second individually andthereby won first in team. Joella 'Trice and Wanda Ivey were the team and they certainly worked hard to win for Fabens. Our juniors did not do as well as the Sub-juniors but they had much harder competition and the words this year were harder than the usual Junior words. Ethel Barrett and Bill Summers composed the team. In the home contest to find out who should represent Fabens at the County meet, these two had plenty of competition, so that next year we ought to, have a winning team. They placed third in the County. Rose Rancich andlMargaret Neumann composed the Senior team. They worked hard but did not have anyone to help them so they did not do as well as they could. Both will grad- uate this year so the burden will fall on new shoulders to up- hold our record in Senior Spelling. VVe have not won the Cham- pionship' since 1927 so it is about time we won this coming year. Miss Hoover' coached the Sub-luniors to their champion- ship and deserves much credit for their success.
