ALLEN, Teacher The Sixth Grade of Fabens had a total enrollment of twenty pupils. Ten were boys and ten were girls. The following pupils have earned Writing Certificates: Johnnye Hen- dricks, Henrietta Cramer, Vela Bess Holmes, Blanche Menefee and Rachel Bickley. In the elimination contest for declamation, the following won places in order named: johnnye Hendricks, Rachel Bickley and Blanche Menefee. Bill Summers won second place in the elimination for spelling. John Lopez won first in the county picture memory contest. Vela Bess Holmes Won third in Junior essay writing in the county. GRAMMAR SCHOOL HISTORY The personnel of the kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth and fifth grades consists of one hundred and seventy pu- pils and seven teachers. These occupy almost the entire first floor of the main building. , It is the first year for regular kindergarten work and under Miss Janice Felty they have had a most interesting and instruc- tive year, special emphasis being laid on health habits and right living. The first grade with Mrs. Pancy Bell and assisted by Mrs. Hamilton has also had many interesting health races, with Basil Huggins winning the most gold stars. Miss Ruby Moody, teacher of the second grade, has also stressed health, but their Dutch project was decided the most interesting of the year. A sand table was made to resemble a scene in Holland with canals, tulips, windmills, Dutch boys and girls and even dogs pulling milk cans in small carts. The third grade had two winners in the Mexican county contest, Antonio Rodriguez in spelling and Lupe Cardero in writing. Miss Mynette Wadswolrth has stressed personal clean- liness and Weight. The fourth and fifth grades do departmental work under Misses Mildred Perkins, Eura Mae Hoover, Mrs. Garland Ma- lone and C. T. Allen. The fourth grade had the winning team in the county sub- junior spelling contest. This team was Wanda Ivey and joela Trice. Alice Jean Myers and William Thomas Martin also plac- ed in the local declamationncontest. The fifth grades had winners in the county picture mem- ory contest. These were Aline Culberson, Frances Chambers, Celia Cramer, Ascencion Trejo, Raul and Trini Maldanado. june Buttrey was a member of the team that won second in the County Music Memory Contest. Sixteen pupils from the fifth grade have won pins in penmanship. PAGE THIRTY THREE
