PAGE TEN WHY I TEACH SCHOOL Miss Cornish: To demand excuses for tardies and absences. Miss Smith: For the satisfaction derived from talking pupils into a state of peaceful repose. Miss Daniel: To dismiss for lunch row by row to avoid some- one's being killed in the rush. Mr. Bell: To teach is to learn. Mr. Quinn: 'fTo make children happy by giving outlines. Miss Donaghey: To witness the pleasure that the foods stu- dents derive from washing dishes. WHY I TAUGHT IN FABENS Having been asked to write something for the Annual, in my meager way I wish to express my appreciation of Fabens and this great western country. The two years preceding nineteen and thirty I taught at Asherton, Texas, a town about the size of Fabens. It is located about one hundred and twenty miles from San Antonio in the garden district of Texas. Though my school work was pleasant and I made friends whom I shall ever cherish, the climate was too hot, and I wish- ed to teach in the romantic West. My desire was fulfilled when I was elected at Fabens. I can truthfully say that I have never had as pleasant a year's work as this yearis has proved. The highways bordered by magnificent trees, the glorious sunsets, the purple moun-' tains, and the Spanish atmosphere are sources of delight, es- pecially so to one just coming to this part of Texas. I have came in close contact with pupil and patron and have formed friendships which I can never forget. I am looking forward to the coming year at Fabens and have found hope of even a more pleasant year's work. -ETHEL CORNISH.
