Exira Community High School, Exira, Iowa 1974-75 2 Mrs. Hew en Dedications 3a vies Alvarez Javies A. Alvarez Monteola joined the EHS student body at the beginning of the second semester. A member of the senior class, Javier's interests in- clude photography, soccer and tennis. He came as a foreign exchange stu- dent from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and he says, The only thing I don't like about Exira is the snow. Javier kept busy in Spanish, Mr. Chef, Joumalisn II, Am. Lit., Mass Media, track, and baseball. His hosts for the first 3 months of his stay were the Curtis Nelsons', the last 3 were spent with the Wilkersons'. We would like to thank Javier for showing what Argentina is like, and we will always remember his smiles, humor, and white socks. Mrs. Elaine Bowen first began teaching at EHS in the fall of 1963. In her 12 years since then, she has taught 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade English, I.S. Reading, College Prep English, English lit., Business English, and American Lit, ; besides being sponsoring Speech, S.E.S. (formerly F.T. A.), and the Senior class. She also directed the class plays in past years. Those of us who knew Mrs. Bowen as an extremely dedicated teacher and friend deeply regretted her re- signation at the end of the first semester this year. We wish to thank her for her immeasurable time and effort within the halls of EHS. The Days Gone By staff would like to dedicate this yearbook to these two well-known people around EHS. Activities of the night also included handing out vocal, instrumental, track and golf letters for the seniors, and giving medals to all high school honor students. 17 Valedictorian — EUGENE JENSEN Salutatorian — TOM EAGEN Graduation —1975 Style 18 19 CLASSES .. .Having a fire drill in the middle of a blizzard and freezing to death without your coat... not being able to get into the locker room in the morning.. . having to run in P.E. for swearing. .. having to go to the end of the lunch line for cutting... track kids rarely at- tending afternoon classes. .. the teachers having the delightful freshmen in their classes. .. getting a permanent pass to the office... the dark room sessions ... relaxing in the top pot at lunch.. . getting zapped by the electrostatic machine.. . not having a full week of classes for a month. .. front windows being knocked out... Jan running out of the locker room with an important piece of clothing gone... getting moved in typing for slapping your neighbor... people blowing kisses in Health... having a toilet monster in English.. . forgetting to hand in your Algebra note- book and still getting an A. .. playing miniature golf in Home Ec and getting yelled at by the teacher. . . sliding into first base on a wood floor during P.E. . .. ruining a new outfit in Art I. .. Mr. Joslin asking if Diane and Bill had something going ... cutting your finger on the weight machine right after a lecture on safety by the P.E. teacher... breaking your aim on the trampoline when trying to do a flip. .. taking a shower by the lockers over noon hour... belting a teacher and yelling You're it! during a friendly game of tab think- ing it's your buddy... having the principal report you for speeding in the hall and having to go back and start all over again . .. making up your own rules in whiffle ball... not knowing how to work the typewriter when working on annual... swiping correcting tape from Mr. Joslin's drawer while he's out of the room.. . Jan— Fonz is my name, and whiffle ball's my game ... it's 10:35 and you can't get back into X-mas Ball.. . wishing you were able to celebrate (legally) after football games... Lisa getting a roll of tape from Santa (who knows what for)... missing a part of your shirt. Where Were Jit ? Prom was. . .the server's dances.. .having your plate taken away before you were finished... socializing between the banquet and the dance.. .teachers arriving late... having a well attended dance for a change... white bobby socks, pony tails, straight-legged jeans (cuffs rolled up, no less) shades and cigarettes rolled up in the sleeves for the servers.. .teachers dancing and enjoying themselves as much as the kids were... getting a flat tire... getting ambushed at the movie... and everyone having an enjoyable night. 52 ORGANIZATIONS 3.3. Being a member of the Days Gone By staff is an experience that those of us who stuck out the whole year will never forget. Those little times we will always remember are... Breaking in a new advisor.. .starting the year with 40 prospective members, and ending the year with 7 or 8 good workers... selling ads... having our senior co-editors quit... those interesting dark room discussions... everyone agreeing on a meeting time except their parents.. .working every day for a week after school was out, trying to finish, but not getting it done.. .trying to finish it with- out the advisor or editor being there... actually meeting one dead- line (the last one). 62 1 - r Annual Staffers The annual staff was led by Mrs. Dankenbring, advisor, and Vicki Tur- ner, editor.
