But he can be funny too as shown by this year's H.S. musical. The melodrama takes place in Colorado in the early 1900's. Danger threatens the Colorado Inn but the efforts of the Forest Rangers save it and the young ladies from any harm. The Indians turn out friendly, everyone finds a mate, and all live happily everafter. The successful production was given March 29 and 30 under the direction of Dean Dietz. The football team was busy readying for the game. Candidates were busy finding or making their dresses; others were busy decor- ating cars for the parade. Some were busy painting the town with tempra. The win- ning window was We Knewed We'd Win by the Sophomores. The cars were judged before the parade Friday afternoon with the Juniors receiving first place for Cage the Wildcats . Thursday night you could've sworn that the grade school was on fire; but alas, it was only the bonfire put on by the cheer- leaders. Since Joe and Roger Nelson were cowards, Herbie threw the Glidden dummy in the fire; Coach Snyder and Coach Smith predicated a victory for the following night. The Coaches' prediction was right. Things started out great for the Vikings as Roger Nelson ran the opening kick-off back for a touchdown. The game continued to be dominated by the Vikings with Exira coming out on top 45-7 over Glidden. Everyone was in good spirits for the victory dance after the game. The Vixon, an all-girl band, provided the music. The cafe was decorated by the student council around the theme of The Wonderful World of Walt Disney”. All in all Home- coming 1973 was a success. 31 Zhe Wonderful World of Disney In preparation for Homecoming, the football team selected ten candidates for Homecoming Queen. The girls and their escorts were presented before the student body on Wednesday, voting was held over the noonhours on Thursday, and corona- tion was held Friday afternoon. All were anxious when the time arrived, especially the seventh grade girls who were seeing their first coronation. To add to the festiv- ities, the football field had been painted and sprayed by the FFA, Student Council, and Art classes. The moment had come. Dennis Williams introduced each candidate Pam Kirk entertained with vocal selections from Walt Disney shows. The winners were announced and as crown bearer Mark Synder and flower girl Staci Thompson stood by. Coach Smith crowned the new Queen, Cathee Christ. All then mobbed after the court to see the Homecoming parade. Candidates Md Escorts: Beth Hill and Herb Hansen. Laurie Clemsen and Tim Wilson. Margaret Nelson and Dave Wilkerson. Julie Hansen and Brian Johnson. Joelene Stephenson and Jeff Jensen. Jan Clausen and Skip Rochholz. Janis Jessen and Ron Nissen. Mary Ballou and Roger Nelson. C athee Christ and Joe Tibben. Jana Froker and Roger Petersen. Christmas Mall Queen Darla Schlater and King Roger Nelson reigned over the 1973 Christmas Ball. Corona- tion was held during intermission, between ses- sions of music provided by Fatback. Princess Kathy Thompson and Prince Mitch Schlater were also named in the ceremonies. Candidates Lyle Christensen, Steve Nadler, Steve Johnson, Diane May, son, Jana Froker, Margaret Nelson, Roger Nelson, Sue Shelly Peppers, Darla Schlater, Kristi Rasmussen, Mitch Nadler, Bill Nelsen. Schlater, Dennis Williams, Keith Nelson, Kathy Thomp- Welcome to Prom 74 Once again the Jr. -Sr. Prom rolled around. Prom Chairman Dennis Williams and his committees be- gan to doubt the validity of Prom when the streamers fell down 10 minutes after the dance started (we worked until 1:30 AM on those things). The outside sign with Caesar's Palace flashing in sequence blew a fuse during the heavy rainstorm and slowly the canopy flopped down. 38 The banquet of ham-kabobs and chocolate mousse was devoured. The servers entertained. Dance mu- sic was provided by Fancy Jack. Many went to the show Portnoy's Complaint . The hands on the clock went around and some made it to the breakfast Sunday morning. All disasters were forgotten as all en- joyed the night at Caesar’s Palace. o Zke Mindbenders The teachers of our 73-74 year will always hold a warm spot in our spiral notebooks. Through them we learned much more than what was in our books. Their influence and personalities helped make us the way we are. SOMEBODY HAD TO TAKE THE BLAME! One thing can be said for our teachers--they were always willing to help us. If you could drag them away from their football games in the lounge, that is! Strange? Yes, but that was the way they were ... 45 Zhe Ruling Class GENE SNYDER: Jr. Hi. P. E., Journalism, Girls Track—B.B.— Softball, Asst. Football. Sophomore Sponsor. Besides going to District (unsupport- ed due to a snowstorm) some of our other exciting moments were: our little get-togethers before practice; being late to practice due to annual meetings; being on candid camera while dressing for practice; having to go back to a rest stop at 2 AM to get someone's forgotten coat; Hav- ing to borrow a blue pair of basket- ball shoes; thinking you fouled out, but you really didn't (yet); girls on one side of the bus-boys on the other; wiping the whole team out with the flu bug; being sick with the flu but still coming to school so you could play. Determination Believe it or not . . . Its a fact, the B.B. Boys had a contest to see who could get the most technical fouls during the season . . . Coach and a few key players went . . . Scouting? We use to run Blood Guts the whole practice . . . Our boys had compassion for the other team--once they even made two points for them . , . We reached 100 points (twice) ... We have a Fresh- man who is able to leap small baskets in a single hop (right Chick). Putt, Putt Club Getting a 20 on a hole with a par of 6 was one of our better days. There were always those times when we got mad and tried to bury our club into the ground. (Sometimes the ground was a little too hard! Right Jeff . . .) All the rhubarb we ate on the way to the meet sure didn’t improve our golf game. We also had to draft a few girls every once and awhile so we would have enough girls for a meet. For some strange reason according to the Jour- nal the Boys never lost a meet but, REALLY they never won one. Jane lie Andersen, Charlotte Leigan, Antionette Kommes, Janie Robinson. Jan Crees. Our cheerleaders promoted spirit by making signs, sponsoring the HC bonfire, and holding pep rallies. To make things more interesting, they held a Mr. Legs contest, a pie eating con- test, and modeled the sleeping attire of some of the BB players and teachers. Selling activity calendars and Viking buttons provided the money used to buy new uniforms for next year.
