I might enjoy school If I didn't have to stud- In 1938, sixteen bewildered youngsters clambered aboard our own private airplane under the supervision of our pilot. Miss Wilma Andersen. These bewildered people were: Slyvla Beckman, Earl Dlmick, Lola Foss, Bill Jensen, Dallas Jensen, Eugene Jensen, Vera Jessen, Viola Jessen, Charles Johnson, Glen Ludwig, Mary Jo Petersen, Jack Slmonsen, Harold Smith, Dale Sorensen, Donald Spoo, and Mardell Wolf. One passenger was dropped by parachute,Vera Jessen. The new air travelers that Joined us at our first grade field with our pilot Miss Norma Miller, were Marvin Lengeman, Marville KJar, and Jimmy • Maxwell. Air transportation seems to have taken a slump during the year of 1940, as we couldn't find any record of air flights during our second grade year. While taking off at our third field with Miss Mildred Phillips as the pilot, there were several of the Members who found that they did not care for the atmosphere of flying, and after the first semester they parachuted out. They were Patricia and William Luzadder. It seems that our plane must be getting quite crowded by now as three more people came with us. They were: Carla Beck, Willis Hester, and Vera Jessen. With Miss Phillips as our pilot once more, we took off on our fourth grade year. Those that Joined us were Delbert Jensen, Richard Phlppen, Dorothy Wahlert, and Alvle Bald. Alvie Bald stayed with us for only nine weeks, after that time he parachuted out over Audubon. Leaving our fifth field with Miss Putbrese as our pilot, we picked up Joan Christensen, Betty Phelps, and Bryon Baker. Joan was the only one that could stand the atmosphere as Betty and Byron left us after six weeks. When we became air borne at our sixth airport we had conditions that were unfavorable for the for hindered one of our passengers,Marvin Lengeman. Those that had Joined us were Ruth Wedemeyer, Bill Juhl, and George Smith. Miss Thelma Hockenberry was our pilot. At our seventh stop we exchanged our plane GRADES for a new one named JUNIOR HIGH. We were quite Important in our own opinion. This year we had three pilots, Mrs. LeVlne who parachuted out after the first semester, Mrs. Payne, and Mrs. Elwood who stayed with us for the whole year. A heavy fog which drifts into our midst prevented us from recognizing who was with us. The last trip made by our plane JUNIOR HIGH took off with Gertrude Sykes, Doris Leander, and Donald Kline as our new passengers. Mrs. Elwood piloted us through this year with flying colors. Having finished eight years of training we were assigned to THE FRESHMAN , our new rocket ship. This was the flight that took us out to the country to pick our new passengers. They were: Raymond Coglon, John Frederlcksen, Raymond Laurltsen, Arlo Ledet, Leo Rasmussen, Howard Walker, Barry West, Agnes Blntner, Sherrill Cooper, Carol Hackwell, Ardlth Keasey, June Hackwell, MaryEllen Murphy, Lorraine Nelson, Donna Lou Voss, Betty W llliams, Mardelle Wolf, and Harriet Wolf. Officers elected from the crew were: president, Doris Leander, vice president, Dick Phlppen, Sec-Treasure, Bill Juhl. Out pilot and co-pilot for this year were Mrs. Neville and Miss. Connor. As we entered our next ship, THE SOPHOMORE we gained three new members Verna Swank, Esther Andersen, and Doris Hutchins. However, John FrederlbkBen decided to leave us. The Junior and Senior Banquet that year was honored by the services of some of our ablest airmen. Our Crew elected Leo Rassmussen as preildent; Charles Johnson vice president; and GlenLudwlg as secretary-treasurer for that year. Miss Rasmussen and Mr. Liddlcoat were our pilot and co-pllot. As we boarded THE JUNIOR we discovered that one new member came to Join us, Elsie Hansen. We're slightly disturbed by the departure of Sherrll Cooper, Esther Andersen, and Raymond Coglon who left us after the first semester. On a beautiful day In May we honored the upper airmen of the SENIOR rocket ship under the roof of the Stork Club which was our theme for the Junior-Senior Banquet. Our play Don'tTake My Penny was a great success under the direction of Miss Burger. Our officers this year were: Hetty Williams president; Doris Leander vice president; and Carla Beck secretary-treasurer. Our pilot, co-pllot and navigator for this year were Mrs. Andersen, Mr. Hooper, and Mr. Hamilton. At last we were able to climb aboard our last ship, THE SENIOR . We discovered that two member of the class left us they were: Elsie Hansen and Ardlth Keasy; also we discovered a new member Derra Dickinson. This wasthe year that two of our crew were elected king and queen of the homecoming. They were Doris Leander and Bill Jensen. For the last trip we elected, Gertrude Skyes as president; Betty Phelps vice president; and DaleSorensen secretary-treasurer. Mr. Gardner and Mr. Bryson were our pilot and co-pllot We have Just finished our last glide through the deeo blue yonder and noware ready to explore new frontiers. Those students who have gallantly held the ship for the entire twelve years are:Earl Dlmlck.BiU Jensen, Dallas Jensen, Charles Johnson,Glen Ludwig, Mary Jo Petersen,Jack Slmonsen, Dale Sorensen, and Donald Spoo. And maybe we're in for crying the blues, But Never-the-le8s,we'll get by somehow. It's time for us now, to bid you goodby, Our school days are past. Oh my how they fly: Success for us all, we will work for now. And in recalling the days, Its the future that lays over yonder, What is in store, we don't know for sure, But we'll wander. So keep your hopes high, ambition ranks first. Its knowledge we seek, continue the search: We'll go on through life with a goal in mind. Memories of school will stay with us all. Remember the fun, our worries were small, The teachers we had were-the best of all. As Freshman we're greeq, as Sophomore we're bold, As Juniors we're mean, as Seniors we're cold: But nevertheless, we got by somehow. And then in saying goodby, we'd like to lmoly, That we'll miss You, We'll travel the raod Just doing the things, That we should do. We seek to do right, we'll never do wrong. With this little phrase, we're ending our song: But nevertheless, we'll get by somehow. CLASS MOTTO Don't Try Dying, but Die Trying.
