Advanced classes spent four weeks with Mrs. Leininger in the home economics suite learning how to prepare foods of the appropriate country. Other methods used to broaden the scope of the language were the designing of Christmas cards in various languages and the showing of filmstrips and Guten Tag” films. Foreign language students learned the modern languages first hand by utilizing their vocabularies almost constantly in class to ask and answer questions. While the rest of the class finishes a class assignment, junior Cindy Hagan, having finished her work, takes time out to daydream. academics 21 The health and well being of the student body concerned all. but special attention was devoted to it by several staff members in related fields. The juniors received physical and hearing tests, while all students received vision tests. Nurse Nancy Francis was joined by Dr. Kent Weaver in running physical examinations for each sport. Mrs. Francis also measured each senior for his graduating cap and gown between emergency situations. The physical education mimi-courses continued, with the addition of Fitness for Life, Tumbling, and Weight Training. Mrs. Teresa Fry rejoined the department two days a week for adaptive physical education. Sports Day and the choreography display were only part of one of the most innovative programs in the state. Murray believes, Bowling is 90% mentals 10% technique. During the 17 matches, senior Mike Morris lead the team as top man in his fourth year as a varsity bowler. Rolling from Bowl-a-Rama, the home lanes, the team bowled as many as three matches a week. January through March, and traveled to five other lanes, including distant Hamburg. Coach Donald F. Evans designated senior Sue Britigan the bowler who gave the varsity girls’ bowling team the stability and notivation it needed. Standouts were Joyce Shurr’s big game and the entire varsity team rolling in the Berks County Tournament. GIRLS’ BOWLING TEAM, rowL B. Baer. C. Dudeck. G. Schmeer. row2. S. Miller. J. Shurr. S. Fick. We’re proud of Selena’s cover, of CeCe’s fences, of the book’s organization, of Mrs. Robertson’s individual production schedule, of Amy’s stick-to it- iveness, of our remaining shreds of sanity, of the June delivery, of the excellent faculty and student cooperation: We’re proud of the staff of pioneers.
