The history department, headed by Mr. Underhill, promotes interest in both past and present events. Sophomores study world cultures; juniors learn U.S. history; and seniors receive a variety of nine-week subjects. Next year, a mini-course program will be incorporated. Mrs. Heath discusses Nicholas and Alexandra with her sophomores. 23

Chairman Robert Dahl, Donald Evans, Roger Schropp Math Department Mr. Schropp explains the wrapping function. The math department offers various courses to suit the individual students' needs. Courses designed to aid the college bound student are geometry, trigonometry, analysis, and calculus. For business students wishing to continue math studies, there are business math, algebra I, and algebra II. In addition, medical and shop math are offered. These classes are planned to provide the student with mechanical and practical math skills. A trigonometry class takes notes from the blackboard. 22

The advanced chemistry class ponders over a difficult problem. The science department offers courses for those students interested in pursuing a career in science or in preparing for college. Basic courses such as Chemistry I and Prep. Chemistry Physics are offered to tenth graders. Juniors may choose from physics or human physiology. After basic courses are taken, a student may choose either an advanced biology or chemistry course. Science Department Mrs. Teresa Kuhar teaches science part-time at Exeter.
