They have helped us to organize and carry out our class activities, such as the football concession, our car washes, bake sales and dances. But most of all they have shown enthusiasm, making these times more enjoyable and memorable. Through their patience and understanding, we have become more aware of our personal capabilities and the responsibilities we will have in the future. As our guidance counselors, they have shown us how important we are as individuals and assisted many of us with course selections and future plans. We are very proud to present Mrs. Jane Draves and Mr. Greg Butterfield with the dedication of our 1979 Pinnacle. .7 Since we can never bring back all the special times that we have enjoyed in the past four years, we hope this book can re-capture some of those moments. Memories of friends and teachers may fade in and out of our minds, but remembered always are the times and feelings shared with those who have touched a place within our hearts. This book is an album of four years of hard work and fun. Perhaps as our eyes linger on these photographs, we can get lost in these memories once again. Within this nostalgia will lie our graduation, which marks the begin- ning of our adult lives. Our journeys may take us on many different paths, but it is up to us to establish our goals and fulfill them to the best of our abilities. Our dreams may become our realities. 63 cSb4mfe Kim Flanders and Lauren Herdecker Jaynee Lees Kathy Martin Cindy Edgerly Lori Knipstein Jenny Tumer Susan Sullivan James Austin Tim Broadbent Craig Derby Marcia Cate - Jennifer Morin Features Editor Layout Editor Lauren Herdecker - Co-Editor Denise Krook fffff Maura Sheehan Vicki Stevens Mike Travis Heidi Nelson Jill Sanner Helen Pearce Kathy Plourde Mike Jacques Teri Finnemore Yvette Plourde Beth Harmon Rich Otten Kim Flanders - Co Editor giEE Q 2 :QQ :a-M f W4 K 5 s milf? f 13236169 J' QX, 'gwi I. The play con- sisted of monologues by dead members of the town of Spoon River. Representing the deceased in black, were Eric Drogin, Sybil Bolden, Harold McCoy, Vanessa Coleman, Kelly Minas Cindy Edgerly, John Hunter, and Kathy Story. Virginia Turner and James Hayden, dressed in white, sang folk songs th: added to the rustic, but unearthly atmosphere. Spoon River was an exciting combination of comedy, rc mance, drama, and music. Every few moments the moo changed as the players took their turns portraying a character Despite terrible weather conditions and trying to compete fc viewers with the sports' teams, the play was very successfu Those who saw the play were impressed greatly with the tiness of the performers and the emotional impact of the play. On April 13th, 14th, and 15th of 1978 the Junior class produced The Mousetrap, a thrilling mystery play by Agatha Christie. The drama was done in the classic whodunit style with a cast of bizarre characters. The highlights of the show included the unexpected murder of Mrs. Boyle CBarbara Richardsl, the encounter between Sergeant Trotter fEric Droganj and Paravicini CKelly Minasl, the dance OJ by Miss Casewell Uenny Turnerl, the attack on Christopher Wren CTim Broadbentl by the jealous husband tBrett Corbinj, and who could forget the horrify- ing scream by Mollie CLisa Gagnonl? Richard Bienick produced the play with assistance from Vanessa Coleman, Robert Eckhart, and many members of the class. Enroute to their fantastic 12-5 record, Exeter shut-out three teams, including a 10-0 victory over rival Winnacunnet. The Hawks also had some very tense and exciting extra-inning games. The Dover game went 11 innings until Dena Stanley hit a two run homer which won the game, 9-7. In the Somersworth game, Exeter came out on top 8-7, only after an action packed nine innings. As a team, the Hawks hit a strong .329, scoring a total of 178 runs while holding their opponents to only 98. In the NHIAA Softball Tournament, Exeter ranked eleventh. On a rainy Saturday afternoon, the Hawks were defeated by Manchester West, 7-2. Exe- ter played well with the exception of the first inning when Manchester scored five of their seven runs. At the annual banquet, awards were presented to Donna and Cindy Cote - Most Improved Players, Missy Thayer - Most RBI's, Totaling 26, Veronica Asbury - Highest Batting Average, .413, and Dena Stanley - Most Valuable Player. Dena had a 10-5 pitching record, pitching 112 innings and striking out 77 batters. Their record of thirteen wins and five losses was enough to gain them a spot in the state tournament, where they faced Kennet High School at Tam- worth. The Hawks, led by the pitching talents of John Achorn, Marty Stollar, and David Henry, faced a difficult situation in opposing the strong Kennet team. Runs were scored by Tiger Seabrooke, Steve Cos- tello, and John Tucker, but didn't prove to be quite enough to over- power Kennet's hitting skills. The game concluded with a score of 9 to 3. The season included many fine wins for the Blue Hawks, such as the one over the Newmarket Mules. The game started on April l7 at Exe- ter, reached a 2-2 tie after seven innings, and was continued on May 24. On the seventeenth, Exeter had a 2-0 lead on a run by John Mielcarz and a home run by Seabrooke. Marty Stollar had a no-hitter under way, ' but was scored on twice in the sixth inning, tying the game. On May 24 in Newmarket, the Blue Hawks came away with the win. Stollar sat the first three Newmarket batters down, and Exeter came to bat looking for just one run. Several school records were established in these eight zvents: Lisa Childs in the 100-yard dash at 11.7 seconds, Katy Lausier, Co-Captain Sue vlorehead, Nancy Reed and Childs in the 440 'elay with a time of 51.3, Morehead in the 440- Jard run with the school's first sub-60 second Fuarter at 59.5 seconds, Laura Stuart in the 880 vith a new record of 2:26.13 and the team of vlorehead, Reed, Stuart and Co-Captain JoAnn etreault ended the afternoon of the mile relay vith a time of 4:ll.3. Inspired by the performances of Cap- tains Harry Williams, John Adams, John Dabney, and Mike Cartier, the Blue Hawk Spring Track Team ran away with fourth place in the State Class I Champi- onships, after having achieved a 5-2 sea- son record. Important victories over Winnicunnet and Nashua were the result of outstanding individual efforts com- bined with confidence and team spirit. Along with the captains, freshman sprinter John Levine and Joel Poli- chronopoulis, who stood out in the field events, also showed off their talents on the track. Playing on the newly dedicated Eustis Memorial Field, the Exeter Blue Hawk Football Team, under the direc- tion of Head Coach Dick Eustis, finished its 1978 season with a record of 4 wins and 5 losses. The team had a difficult season due to injuries to some of its key players, including Dave Anzivino, Rob Woodburn, and Ray Dunn. Every game ended with a very close score, excluding the traditional rivalry against Winnacunnet, in which the Blue Hawks suffered a loss of 34-0. The high point of the season was the game against Dover, in which Exeter's terrific effort paid-off in a 16-14 win. At the annual banquet, which was held in November, Brian Miller, Marty Day and Jim Proulx were announced as the tri-captains for the 1979 season. The relay team upheld the state record as Stevens, Nancy Reed, Terry Eustis, and Childs outflew Portsmouth once again. Kim Felder consistently raised her school records in the high jump and shotput. Distance runners Chris Massey, Barnie Hodgens, and Cathy Plourde ran increasingly well, as did teammates Nancy Reed, Sandy Stevens, Julie Clark, and Terry Eustis.
