Many of our members participated enthusiastically in the Latin, French, Dramatic, and Glee Clubs. Our two most important events of the year were the Junior Prom and the Junior Plays, which were very successful and enjoyed by all. With the aid of our advisor, Mrs. Rebecca Johnson, we have had a full and memorable year, Which, we are sure, we will never forget. fl, 11,- ,ctfg 0, ... v,. 'Q 1 51 Y Jl'NIOR FLASS Seated: P. Junior Class History XYork a little and have lots of fun seemed to be our motto as we en- tered school this year. The struggle to accustom ourselves to the responsi bilities placed upon us by no means discouraged us, and it wasn't long be- fore we had established supremacy of the main room. Our first serious business of the year, apart from getting settled to out school routine, was to hold a class meeting and elect class oflicers. The re- sults of that meeting were: Prcsiclcizz' - Robert Dillon Vice P1'cs1'zIvnf - Gene Wilbur Sffc'1'f'frz1'y - Richard Fournier 64 Student Council Representatives are Frank Stillings and Robert Willett. Canteen Representatives are Richard Greenwood and Robert Willett. The junior class has been well represented on the athletic squads. Eustis, Magoon, Willett, Gamlin, Waterman, Greenwood, O'Brien, Dillon, Keeney, and Chisholm made the football team. Bouchard, Willett, Water- man, Eustis, Magoon, Chisholm, and Stillings represented us on the basket- ball team. In winter track we had Douglas, Greenwood, O'Brien, Dillon, and Chisholm. The musically inclined among us, who played in the band or sang in the chorus, are Metcalfe, O'Brien, Robinson, Strout, Kenick, Plouffe, Schultz, Dillon, and Richard. As our junior class became full of plays, vic dances, athletics, canteens, and the junior prom, our motto slowly changed to work quite a bit and have fun, as much fun as time allows, of course. The fact that every individual in the class has worked hard and proved to the world that he is a junior, shows that the year has been a tremendous success. Sally Paine and Joy Goddard have gone to Northfield, while Nancy Proulx 66 and the Westphal girls have moved away. To make up for this loss, how- ever, we have gained some welcome additions to our ranks. An admirable percentage of sophomores is in the Glee Club, and Betsy Perry did so well as librarian last year that she has earned the office again. The Dramatic Club has opened new vistas for many of us, and a group of? our girls has presented a play for this organization. Those of us who have had the opportunity to visit French Club have found it an inviting prospect. The Sophomore Hop was not only successful financially, but it was also enjoyed very much by those who attended. Although our class did not excel on the athletic teams this fall, we in- tend to perk up and do well next year. We have enjoyed our classes with the Seminary's new teachers, but of course, we were glad to see the familiar ones too. Next year we'll be juniors and upperclassmen, so let's try to make it a great new year in a great new school. SOPHOMORE CLASS Front row: C. Bouchard, G. Stanley, D. Young. E. Willett, G. Steven, R. In winter track Richard Dillon, Dennis Freeman, Allan Robinson, Kevin King, Ralph Landry, and Norman Gagne competed. Among the different clubs and groups, We had six class members in the senior band, one member in the junior band, and two members in the newly organized photography club. All of us were sorry to see Danny Fortin, Garth Morse, Lee Donaldson, and Robert Shell leave. We had Roger Bacon join us at mid-year to bring our number up to fifty-five pupils. The 8 A's captains were: in field hockey, Lynne Fletcher: in soccer, Nancy Holland: and in badminton, Ar- 74 lene Davey. Diane Montgomery, Judith Woodworth, and Dorothy Marshall were captains for the 8 B's in field hockey, soccer, and badminton, respect- ively. The 8 B's won the soccer game and the 8 A's the field hockey. When Christmas time came, we gave it a good welcome by playing popular records, having a gay tree, and enjoying refreshments afterwards. We did quite well in the P. T. A. membership campaign, and received two dollars for a prize. Although it took considerable time to decide what to do with this money, we contributed it to the March of Dimes. We have also given money to the Junior Red Cross. Throughout the year, we have had several socials. Those who attended these thoroughly enjoyed them and we should like to thank Mr. Hathaway and the teachers who chaperoned. Mr. Field supervised several roller skating parties for us. Although these parties may have strained our pocketbooks somewhat, they were well worth it. We are having fun deciding what courses we shall take next year, and eagerly looking forward to being Freshmen in the new high school. J :ff ' EIGHTH GRAIIH Front row: .l. Prescott, R. Lowther. ll. Eighth Grade Class Histor Tuesday, Septemlier 7th, 195-1, found us, the former seventh grade ot' last year, enthusiastically looking forward to our eighth grade year, our second at Exeter High School. Due to the fact that we were a large class. eleven of us were placed in Room 9, to have Mr. Field for a home-room teacher. The tirst major activity was eighth and ninth grade football. Twelve boys from the eighth grade tried out for the team. We had a fairly success- ful year. winning three games and losing two. Mr. Eustis, our coach, taught us much about the game of football. The various clubs of the school were soon started. Those in which eighth grade pupils participated were: Junior Band, Senior Hand, and History Club. The iirst ot' four .Iunior High Socials which we are gifted with each year, under the direction of Mr. Hathaway, was held early in October. All who attended enjoyed themselves tremendously by dancing and playing various games. 76 Soon the History Club was started by Mrs. MacNabb. Otlicers were elected and all who were admitted enjoyed it greatly. Seventh and eighth grade basketball was the next sport in line. Seven eighth grade members made the squad. Our coach, lVIr. Stone, helped our playing considerably. Next, came the yearly magazine drive. Our class goal was 514255 and we collected 553306. The leaders in the two rooms were Martin Quandt and Scotty Carlisle. Six new boys joined us this year. They were George Forbes, James White, Robert Schultz, Howard George, Stanly Buxton, and Ronald Evans. We were sorry that Robert Schultz had to leave us soon after he came. We are indeed grateful to all our teachers for their superb leadership during our eighth grade year. We were sorry that Mrs. MacNabb was ill for a short time. Our sincere thanks go to the three substitute teachers who took over in her absence. They were Mrs. Bowman, Mr. Cawley, and Mrs. Barnard. We were, however, very glad when Mrs. MacNabb returned. We will 1'emember and cherish this year, and the many happy ex- periences it brought us, for a long time to come. Seventh Grade Histor In September 54 boys entered the seventh grade from Exeter and its surrounding' towns. We soon learned that the noise from the construction of the new High School was disturbing, but we gradually became used to it. As the school year went on, many ot' us took part in the school activi- ties, such as History Club, Choir, Junior Hand, and liasketball. We are now eagerly awaiting spring and baseball. 78 Our class topped its quota in the annual magazine drive, which was headed by Robert Swasey. The socials conducted by Mr. Hathaway were very much enjoyed by the seventh and eighth grade students of the Seminary and High School. We are very sorry that Mrs. MacNabb has been ill for several weeks. Pinnacle Staff Early in the fall the Pinnacle Staff was elected in both schools. This year's staff was under the command of editors Paula Scammon and Rich- ard Merk. At an organizational meeting soon after the elections, Mr. Fullam out- lined the diverse duties and activities of the various departments connected with the yearbook, and at that time Mrs. Keene presented us with tigures and estimates ot' printing costs and other necessary expenditures. As time passed, the staff's activity moved into high gear and the work ol' the various editors was coordinated into this, our yearbook. This year we held a Camera Day during which all students owning cameras were invited to bring them to school to snap informal pictures ot' their classmates for the yearbook. Many were the rough spots we navigated safely, through the wise busi- ness accumen ot' Mrs. Keene, and the untiring efforts ot' Mr. Fullani. To each of them we extend our most sincere thanks. With the school year, the last for many of us, at an end, so ends the coverage ot' this Pinnacle. We hope that the students of Robinson Semin- ary and Exeter High School, and any others who might look through it, find enjoyment in its pages. WILCOMH HERLIHY Assistant Editor ar.. PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB Left to right: N. Smith. B. lV0ods, J. Merrill, .l. Johnson, Mr. Preble, IE. Small, M. J. Zarnowski, S. Saltonstall, M. Marshall, E. Gaulin. Photography Club The Photography Club was reorganized this year under the capable direction of Mr. Edwin Preble. The aim of the club is to give its members experience in developing, printing, and framing as well as snapping good, inexpensive pictures. In the Photography Club laboratory there are enlargers, contact printers, chemicals, aprons, cutters, paper, special lights and other sorts of utensils for the processing of film. However, besides laboratory or dark room work, there is the most important phase of photography, the act of taking pictures. Emphasis is put upon practice -, because in this way only can a person grasp the meaning, the fun, the pride, and above all, the experience of taking good pictures. Later, in the dark room, one's mistakes are shown and explained in order to insure against future errors. Among members this year were a number of girls from the Robinson Seminary. Any student possessing an inexpensive box camera and a desire to learn to use it and other photographic equipment available to him as a mem- ber, may join the Exeter High School Photography Club. The following oiiicers were elected: President - Paula Scammon Vic'0-Pwsident - Betsy Perry Srfcrcfa1'y-T1'f'as1l1'm' - Patricia Fortin The Student Council members acted as hostesses on parents' night, held at the Seminary on Tuesday, November 9. The purpose of this program was to acquaint the parents with their daughters' teachers and subjects. Despite some confusion and a few misplaced parents, the evening proved to be a successful one. Our Christmas spirit was extended to the Student Council of a school in Etrepagny, France by means of a CARE package. We sent the package to Jacqueline Mennessier whom we learned about through mutual friends. On Monday, March 14, the Student Council sponsored a juke box as- sembly. The disc jockey was Margaret Marshall, who introduced the ten most popular songs chosen by separate class ballots. The Student Council undertook a contest which called for suggestions from the students of both schools for a mascot for the new school. The Stu- dent Councils then chose three of the suggested names, and the students of both schools voted for the final one. Much credit and admiration should be extended to Mr. Carr, who has acted as our advisor through this year. 86 S'l'l'lJENT COUNCIL Seated: Mr. Roundy, R. llillon, N. Thurston, K. Smart. ll. At our first meeting we discussed various rules and regulations of the past year, which were approved by all the members. Later it was decided to form a police force to cope with the trafhc problem. During the cou1'se of the year a member suggested that the council ob- tain a banner for the school, which would have the school's name sewed upon it. This banner would serve as a delegate at all sport events in order to boost morale. A committee was formed to sponsor a contest for selecting a nickname for the school, and this contest met with great success. We believe that through the efforts of Mr. Harriman and Mr. Roundv this year has been a very successful one. 87 ,Q-av' Ns K1 '53, Band Ensemble Flutes Joan Jacobson Astrid Rogalski Jeanette Pulver Barbara Woods Clarirzcfs Betty Pennell Susan Griswold Mary Jane Zarnowski Virginia Proulx Joan Hill Joyce Marion Sandra Rowell Janet Douglas Louise Jacobson Linda Kellogg Pat Ellison Lois Kenick Sa.roplzomf.w Wallace Stevens Wayne Wilbur C-'onnie Richards John Merrill Colldzlcfoi' EDWIN G. Music was furnished by the Band for the Christmas Party sponsored by the Lion's Club. The Band participated in the Centennial Celebration Parade at Man- chester which commemorated 100 years of Education in New Hampshire, and recorded for the Educational Division of the National Broadcasting Company. As in two previous years, the St. Johnsbury Academy Band came here on March 26 for a combined concert, with Exeter playing a return engage- ment at St. Johnsbury the following week. The traditional Spring Concert introduced, as our guests, the Aldrich High School Band from Warwick, Rhode Island, where the Exeter band had played an exchange concert two weeks previously, and the Robinson Seminary Glee Club. In outside activities, George Richards attended the U.N.H. Summer Youth Music School, and several band members played in the town band. The school year ended with the band playing for the Memorial Day Parade and Graduation. We wish to thank our conductor Mr. Preble, all our parents, friends and teachers for the assistance they so generously gave during the year. CHEERLEADERS Front row: B. Markie, J. Bernier, J. Cheerleading At the beginning of the school year, one realized the enthusiasm of the cheerleaders as they practiced for the coming football season. Under the direction of their able captain, Virginia Fieldsend, and with the help of veteran Joan Henneberry, the newly chosen members of the squad, Betty Markie, Pat Timmins, Anita Harbin, and Judy Bernier, were quickly instructed in the art of cheerleading. A few weeks after school opened, this snappy sextet could be seen on the football iield every Satur- day, cheering their team on to victory. With the coming of the basketball season, this group could be heard cheering under the bright lights of the Exeter High gymnasium. Many hard-earned thanks go to these girls for keeping the spirit high throughout the games, even when Exeter lost. W'e are especially proud of Virginia Fieldsend and Pat Timmins who are the Seminary candidates for the Miss Basketball Cheerleader of '55' contest which is sponsored by the New Hampshire Sunday News. Pat Timmins was elected by the squad to replace Virginia Fieldsend next year as captain of the cheerleaders. The girls wish to thank Mr. Harriman, Mr. Stone, and Mr. Eustis for making it possible for them to attend the out-of-town football and basket- ball games. They also wish to express their appreciation to Mrs. Stone, for her extensive efforts, which have certainly been rewarded. 90 TEEN CANTEEN Seated, left to right: R. Elmore, J. Douglas, J. Lary, J. The representatives keep the record col- lection up to date. This collection may be used by classes for their Vic dances. Besides providing amusement for the teen-agers, the Teen Canteen funds do a lot of good. Around Christmas time money is donated to the Red Cross for their program, Christmas on the High Seas. Cans of food are usually donated to the Lion's Club. For the first time, money was donated this year to buy candy for the children at the library during the Christmas Story Hour. In January we turned over the proceeds from a Canteen to the March of Dimes. In March, We have another special dance, proceeds of which go to the Red Cross. Towards the end of the school year, 375.00 is given to the School Nurse's Fund. Last year this money was used to buy special eye testing equipment. When a local teen-ager is seriously injured, the Can- teen is always willing to help. We sincerely hope that you have enjoyed this year's Canteens. SX 'S r Ii FRENCH Cl.l'B First row: ll. Buxton, J. At the first meeting, the following ofiicers were elected: President, Elise Laurin, Secretary-Treasurer, Janice Stevensong Librarian, Betsy Perry. We made our first appearance in October, singing for the P. T. A. at the Exeter Inn. In November we sang for the B. P. W. again at the Inn. Christmas programs were presented for the Women's Club and the Lion's Club, and Christmas assemblies were put on at both the Seminary and the High School. We are looking forward to more singing engagements, and, in the Spring, to participating in the Music Festival. We would like to thank Miss Foster for giving so generously of her time, and we hope that the reputation she has established for the Glee Club will compensate in part for her interest in us.
