CROSSING OVER INTO NEW IMAGES Tom is looking a bit soggy! The Exeter Cross Country pro- gram had three individual run- ners for the 1985 season. The three runners were Ted Hoff- man, Tom Shafer, and Mark Miller. In a season filled with sun, snow, and rain, the Ea- gles went to battle in nine meets. Ted, the most success- ful of the three Eagle runners, defeated 439 varsity runners raising his career total to a school record of 1,463 de- feats. All the runners bettered themselves from last year, set- ting new personal records of 15:47, Ted — 18:48, Mark — 21:50, Tom — With the season climax at Ge- neva, host of- the C-1 district meet, Ted won the 5,000 me- ter race by out sprinting the competitors and taking the gold medal. WE CAME BACK BEN HORNE’S performance at State Tourna- ments was SUPERB!!! TOM PETERSEN: Honorable Mention All Conference ROB McCABE: Honorable Mention All Conference ROB McCABE at his finest! It was a year that Coach Wilbeck, Butler and the boys will never forget! Their bus sign read: Back By Popular Demand as they travelled to Lincoln to defeat Adams, Sidney St. Pats and finally Beemer in a nerve-racking 63-55 win. A standing- room-only crowd filled with nearly every Exeter citizen and alumni cheered for three days in support of the Eagles. The boys took home the State Championship Trophy, the Lincoln Journal Champion- ship Plaque and set a few records along the way. Ben Horne scored 83 points to set a new State Tourney individual record. The Team shot for 87 points against Sid- ney to establish a record in Team scoring. The most impressive precedent set was the double championship in class D-1 with both Exeter Girls and Boys Teams taking State Titles. The excitement, pride and accomplishments the 1986 Exeter Boys Basketball Team brought to this community will never be forgotten! Thanks Guys!! 20
