On the Gridiron Many underclassmen gained much needed ex- perience while compiling a season record of eight loses and one win. End Leon Harre was chosen to the All Confer- ence Team and Kenn Hulse and Roger Drucker were given Honorable Mention. We lost a senior letterman, Alan Songster at our first away game at Milford. We were defeated by Milford in a heartbreaking score of 18 to 0. Our first and only victory was Homecoming with the Bruning Bears. While the royalty watched, the mighty Eagles pulled ahead and won the memor- able game by a score of 14 to 7. The next disappointment in our football season during the Fairmont game was when John Erdkamp, a senior, broke his ankle. The best game of the season was played by the Eagles at Ceresco when they made an attempt at victory only to lose the game 14 to 6. The entire game was played in Eagle territory but yardage was extremely hard to obtain. Eagle fans can look forward to a more ex- perienced team next year with the return of many lettermen. Leon Harre leads the Eagles to an important tackle during the Clay Center game. Larry Becwar, aided by teammates, tackles a Wildcat opponent. We won our first two games which were then followed by a series of twelve upsets until we met the Ohiowa Bulldogs which we beat in a thrilling game. We then lost our last two games. During the season, many underclassmen gained some valuable experience. Seniors returning to the squad were Steve Schneider, Leon Harre, John Horne, and Alan Songster. Leading scorer and top rebounder for the year was Kenn Hulse.
