Text from Pages 1 - 60 of the 1961 volume:

I 6O- 6 It is with deep satisfaction that the Eagle staff presents the 61 edition of the Annual. The first for several years. We hope it will begin a tradition of annuals for the future years. We wish to give you a fond remembrance of the happy days we spent at Exeter High.Wehopeyouwillenjoy this annual as much as we have enjoyed planning it for you. Into this world go the cream of our crop the graduating Seniors of 1961. It is our earnest prayer and sincere belief that they will have the stability of character and soundness of judgment necessary to bring order from the chaos into which their elders have permitted the world to drift. Regretfully we see them go forth to accept the challenge, but we do not harbor a single doubt as to the final results. They will meet it as youth has from the beginning and if there be a possibility of world peace, the pre sent gene ration will achieve it. Our blessings go with you. Class of 1961. May health, happiness, and the sat- isfaction of a job well done be your lot. I This annual, the first such attempt for several years, is launched into a most provocative period of history. The world is divided into two camps, waging a cold war the outcome of which none can fore- tell. SCOTT ALAN BRIGGS April 2, 1943 - March 23, 1961 . . . . thou at length art free. Leaving thine outgrown shell by life's unresting sea. --Oliver Wendell Holmes. We hereby officially dedicate the 61 Eagle to Mr. Slosson. He has taught several years in our school. He has been not only a teacher but also a guiding light and helping hand for many stu- dents. It is our desire to show-appreciation for the good influence he has had over our school days. His guidance has been dee ply appreciated and will always be remembered. 8BI Bill Krejci, Frank Rouch, Roy Bristol, Leo Marek, Thane Croston, Frank Tauriella. Top Picture 1. to r., Monica Harre, Larry Rasmussen, Sharon Dodson, Monty Hanson, Tommy Larsen, Carolyn Bender, Larry Ekeler, Cindy Gibbons, Jean Ethington, Wayne Barkmeier, Linda Wellman, Ralph Jansen. The Junior-Senior Banquet was held April 27 at 6:30 P. M. in the gymnasium. The decorations for the theme of the Roaring Twenties were a ceiling of blue and silver starred paper, a park with a pond, a love seat, a swing, and a picnic table at one end. Joe's Bar was at the other end. On the stage was a 1915 Empire automobile and decorated tables were arranged in the center of the floor. The entertainment included the flapperettes and the Charleston. After the program, we danced to the music of O. K. Jones and his band. Si The junior class gave the play on Friday, November 18. The play was about the Maxwells and their children: Betty Lou, Connie, and Wilbur. Betty Lou has a poem printed in the school paper. Since grandmother Maxwell's maiden name was Barrett, Betty Lou justknowsshe is adescendent of Elizabeth Barrett Browning. She and her friend, Bernadine, send to a company for their family tree. Dad gets the wrong family tree and believes his descendents were Stem-faced Stella, Lester the Leech, and Sarah the Sparrow. He believes he is going crazy. When Wilbur and Hercules start communicating with live skeletons in the closet, he knows he is cracking up. When Fred Hastings spends more money than his parents believe he is earning, when his friend Larry Madison attempts to get his chum out of hot water, and when an eccentric little lady of eighty decides to play football, any attempt at trying to preserve the sanity of other casual observers becomes futile. All these unusual acts led up to a very interesting and comical play.
