It only takes an outstretched hand. “An Outstretched Hand” by Rod McKuen, from LONESOME CITIES, published by Random House, 1968, is used by permis- sion of Jay Foster, Rod McKuen Enter- prises, Cheval-Stanyan Co., Hollywood, California. PERSONALITY Persons — Going Places, Doing Things. Being. Stretching to Become — What) Pictured here are two scenes from “Life With Father” around the Day family table. The cast included Jerry Snider as Father, Wendy K. Douglas as Vinnie, David Duvall as Clarence, Ron Davenport as John, Robert Phillips as Whit- ney, John Shipp as Harlan and Marybeth McDonald as one of the many maids hired by the Day family. The cast had sixteen characters. 12 SENIOR PLAj , 'LIFE WITH FATHER, AMUSES AUDIENCE 1 STUDENT COUNCIL These are just a few of the couples who went to the Sadie Hawkins Carnival and Dance. But just for curiosity’s sake, what does John Overman have his mouth open for? At the Carnival, clubs and organizations of the school spon sored various booths such as a fishing pond, faculty dunk and ring toss. Page Blues Band played for the dance. Miss Rosrnolen has her eyes on the money which was raised at the carnival while Becky Lambert is carefully count- ing it. One of the Student Council’s many super projects was the selling of high school stickers to be placed on the rear windows of cars. The Student Council was led by Pat Gorsett. Seems everyone is cheering him on at the bonfire during Spirit Week. 15 The tidal WaVe came. Getting together to create a WaVe of emotion. Big enough for Victorg, high enough to bring merit, and Wide enough to make talent soar! The tide of spirit, is forever With us. i p DRY Students — Faculty at Fun John Gillespie, Salutatorian; Janice Allan, Valedictorian; Kent Chaney, Valedictorian; Bccki Rogers, Valedictorian; Copnie Spor, Valedictorian. The four valedictorians of the 1970 graduating class tied for this honor with a 4.0 average for all four years of high school. At the far left, Denise Ware and Brenda McCoy help Mr. Ken- nedy tally proceeds from a senior work day at Sam and Sandy’s Drive-in. At the far right is a sign advertising the senior spa- ghetti supper. Both projects were to raise money for the senior trip to the Ozarks in the spring. Both projects were a success and the seniors enjoyed the trip. 21 Outstanding Seniors Best Personality Beth Porter Mike Einerson Cutest Friendliest Renee Irons Steve Smith David Duvall Most Likely to Succeed Beth Porter Connie Spor Elected in Poll Best Dressed Denise Ware Chris Bills Most Studious Janice Allan Bob Hedges Most Athletic Most Courteous Vicki Barnes Linzy Teegarden Beth Porter Pat Gorsett ROi ALTi Kings and Queens Make Regal Appearances Throughout Jtear And Add a Spark of Excitement to School Events Cathie Reigns at Homecoming 26 Queen of 1970 Cathie Kaiser The Homecoming Court, 1st Princess, Melaine Belknap, Queen Cathie Kaiser, 2nd Princess, Jean Ann O’Dell. 1st Princess Melanie Belknap 2nd Princess Jean Ann O’Dell Connie Wins Court Warming for Senior Class 29 Connie Spor—Queen Greg Smith and Nancy Lamley were chosen by the Sophomore class to be their candi- dates for Sadie Hawkins. Making of a yearbook-1970. Time, toil and tears have produced “An Outstretched Hand”. So many people have been involved in helping to create this yearbook, and I would like to thank all who have had even a small part in helping. A yearbook isn’t just pictures of classmates—its a journal of the whole school year. It is hoped that memories of 1970 will be kep intact by this yearbook. However, pictures are the integral part of the yearbook. Mr. Vern Hoyt of Vern’s Photography, Excelsior Springs, has assisted the school photographers in many ways with the use of his studio and instruction to the photographers. Mr. Dean Conrad, Liberty photographer, stepped in to help at the end of the school year to complete unfinished pictures. The administration and faculty of ESHS have been very cooperative and understanding with interruptions during classtime. Inter-Collegiate Press and Mr. Robert Gadd of Inter-Collegiate have been very helpful in explaining how to produce a yearbook. This cooperation and help is very much appreciated by the yearbook staff. I would like to give special acknowledgement to Mr. Wayne Ward, our sponsor, without whom there would not be a yearbook. Thanks, again, to everyone for their help. Sincerely, Kathy Howard Editor Sports Editor Vickie Barnes Co'Sports Editor Karen Gorham Co'Bus in ess Photography Business Manager Manager Debby Lodwick Janice Wilson Denise Ware Mr. Vern Hoyt Assistant Business Manager Crystal Paine Staff Cathy Bales Connie Shelor Madalyn Slayton 125
