Juniors We, the Junior Class of 1959, with our deter- mination, our talents, and our ability to accomplish things well, hope that we may uphold the standards of our school that have been set by the seniors before us. We know there will be many difficult times and very hard decisions to make but if we all work together we shall certainly succeed. The officers we have selected to represent our class are: Tommy Maidment, Vice- President; Larry Boone, President; Larry Greim, Treasurer; and Barbara Shrout, Secretary. Band Day at Columbia, Missouri. The marching band, slightly handi- capped with only thirty-seven members, performed half-time acts for home and out-of-town football games. The band also led our own Homecoming Parade and presented a special half-time act for the crowning of the queen. Our Tiger Band marched in the William Jewell Homecoming Parade and participated in a marching contest held on the Jewell field. Ending the 1958 marching season was the annual Mineral Water Bowl Game, with half-time acts per- formed by our band and a guest band from Lincoln University. Band M. Corum, Twirler. THIRD ROW: D. A new feature was added this school year--a dance band. It is just newly organized, but there are high hopes for its future. Director Thunder on Sycamore Street, a play in three acts by Kristine Sergei, was chosen to be presented by the Junior Class. Having been broadcast on the CBS Television pro- duction Studio One, it proved to be a great challenge for the student cast. Plays in former years had been mostly comedies, so the industrious Junior Class chose to present a drama, a feat not attempted by a calss for many years in this school. The action revolved around Joseph Blake, a former convict, and Arthur Hayes, a mild but determined resident of Sycamore Street. The neighborhood families are very moody and when they find out that Joseph Blake has once been in prison they decide to run him out of town. In the meantime, Caroline Hayes, Arthur Hayes's daughter, becomes very friendly with Judy, the daughter of Joseph Blake. The angered families finally decide on a day to go up to Blake and tell him to leave. When Caroline finds this out she defends Judy and her family. She thinks that whatever Joseph Blake had done before doesn't matter, it is the present that is important. As the mob gathers on the Blake's front lawn, Joseph stands up to his constitutional rights and decides to do anything he can to stay. The last act is merely the summing up of the facts. When Judy and Caroline stand their ground, Arthur and the families of Sycamore Street see how silly they have been and they gradually leave to return to their respective homes. The Blakes stay on Sycamore Street and the neighborhood settles down to everyday routine. All-School Snaps Grace? Going, going, gone! Going up? Open Sesame Monkey Island Real loud!
