In order to obtain the rich- ness of life we must fulfill a purpose. The seamstress sews, the architect plans, the engineer builds, the me- chanic repairs. They work together or alone, all with one purpose - to make to- day's world a better place. We as students must make preparations to meet the challenge of tomorrow's rap- idly advancing society. Al- though the understanding of today is important, ad- vanced skills in science, math, and technology will be necessary because of the demands of tomorrow. The seamstress of tomorrow may sew with chemicals instead of threads. The architect will find it necessary to plan for mid-air communit- ies that reach toward the stars. The engineer and the mechanic will have to be- come familiar with more sophisticated tools. The use of lasers, computers and precision instruments will require more technical skill. In the world of tomorrow scientific methods and new discoveries will become a part of daily living. To ful- fill our purpose we will have to meet these new demands. No matter what advance- ments the future may hold, we must prepare to meet and master the challenge of tomorrow's world. For this we prepare.

Dedication Through a skilled educator a better tomorrow is born. His influence will be felt in every- thing that is done by future en- gineers, housewives, architects, airline-pilots, and business men. Owing to such a far-reaching scope of influence, a teacher must have outstanding mastery of his subject and his profession. As an educator he must be con- versant with every aspect of his subject, he must keep up with the current events, he must hold opinions, yet not be opin- ionated. He must be scholar, tutor, friend and disciplinarianp for not one, but hundreds of students look to him for guid- ance. In short he carries the burden of the future. Excelsior High School has been fortunate throughout the years in consistently maintaining an outstanding faculty. Some of the finest educators teach here. This year El Aviador is dedicat- ed to one who stands out as an exceptional member of the Ex- celsior faculty, a teacher who has been more than a scholar, tutor, friend, and disciplinarian. He is a man who combines sin- cerity with a sense of humor, a man who is always prepared to lecture on the pertinent facts of World History, a man whose yellow Mustang is the first on campus, a man who is always willing and ready to give extra help to his students. Born in Texas he obtained both his bachelor and master's degrees at Baylor University. He then came to California and did his student teaching, he remained at Excelsior, and for the past twelve years has taught Social Studies and Business Education. To this outstanding scholar, friend, and disciplinarian goes our special thanks. We respectfully dedicate the 1967-68 El Aviador to lVlr. Will- iam Lantrip.
