seg-W f fait' . . asia- ' 1 f, :1 .: '. ?5Vwg w-Q.. X ' ml Q3f7?ff 'lU' Mrs. Poteat has been a counselor at Excelsior for nine years. For the past three years she has served as head counselor, overseeing all counseling activities. Since coming to Excelsior in 1958, she has worked toward better educational programs and opportunities for all students and has successfully acquired scholarships for deserving students. Mrs. Poteat also sees that vocational training is provided for students wanting to develop technical skills. Often Mrs. Poteat works behind-the-scenes solving special problems and acquiring extra benefits for stu- dents. Many owe their high school diplomas and college entrance to the fact that Mrs. Poteat is dedicated to seeing that students realize their educational opportunities. A sound education is the most important part of the years an individual spends in high school . ln order to make these years successful a student's individual program must be properly suited to his particular abilities. The instruction must also be of such quality that the student is properly prepared for future endeavors. The teacher and the counselor must work together as a team to provide the student with ex- cellent educational oppor- tunities. When it came time to make a choice for this year's dedication, we, of the annual staff, found the decision difficult. Many names were submitted by the students, but when the choice was narrowed down, two very deserving persons, one a counselor, the other a teacher, topped the list of candidates. Knowing that these two individuals spent countless hours dedicated to helping students, it was decided to honor both . It is, therefore, with a deep sense of gratitude that we dedicate the i967 EL AVIADOR to Mrs. Dorothy Poteat, a devoted counselor and Mrs. Anna Kerr, a master teacher.
