MARIE WICK, Mike Richardson, and Kim Peterson portray a nativity scene in the Christmas Concert. Yuletide Activities' This year at Excelsior a gay and festive mood permeated the entire holiday season. The decorating of the Christmas tree and the promoting of the Girls' League candy cane sale helped to get the student body into the spirit of the season. To provide needy families with a holiday meal, Excelsior boys competed against the girls in their annual canned food drive. Climaxing this bitter contest was the announcement that the girls had contributed more canned goods to the drive, and the boys were to become slaves for a day. Christmas Concert, the most beautiful and inspiring part of the school's holiday activities, matched the splendor of previous years. Excelsior again congratulated Miss Marie Wilson for having outdone herself in presenting to the school and the community the moving story of the birth of Christ. Unselfishly donating hours of hard work, Miss Wilson has, in a sense, become as much to the Christmas Concert as Mrs. Hilda Yates who first instituted it over a generation ago. Snowflake Serenade, the annual Christmas dance spon- sored by the Senior Class, brought yuletide festivities to a close. Pilots selected Cerritos Student Center as the sight of this formal affair and decorated it with a large white tree. Dancing to the music of the Tudormen, Excelsior students found this to be a perfect way to bring holiday activities to a close. 16 ,

.wmv Homecoming Activities' An exciting week of anticipation was climaxeddby tears and applause at the Coronation Assembly, October 23, when a hushed Excelsior Student Body heard the proclamation by Senior Class President Bob Fjelsted, Your 1965 Homecoming Queen is Miss Janice Street. Last year's'queen, Julie Loya, then placed the beautiful crown on the new monarch's lovely head. Janice and her court of princesses - Bobbi Rxentes, Dorothy Garza, Donna Jones, and Joan Wallace - were presented with silver charm bracelets. The queen and her court also found themselves lucky enough to be escorted by varsity football play- ers: Butch Manzo, David Theissen, Gig Perez, Tom Tanner, Rudy Juarez and Student Body President Brian Thompson. After the queen took her place on the magnificent burgundy velvet throne, the assembly preceded with a medieval theme. In the as- sembly students met his royal majesty, the King, who had fallen asleep, as well as other colorful characters of the castle who tried unsuccessfully to awaken him. Although these events brought to an end a hectic and suspenseful week, Queen Janice and her court soon realized that this coronation was just the beginning of their reign over Homecoming Week and the all im- portant Homecoming game.
