THE PRINCIPAL--A principal is to uhigh schoolwhat a director is to an orchestra. When Mr. Richard Gahr rapped his baton on the bandstand and stepped on the podium, our school life at Excelsior began. He saw to it that the entire school program functioned rhythmically. One of his main jobs was to establish and carry out the school policies, as planned by the Superintendent and Board of Trustees. In addition, the discipline, appearance at meetings, and working with the Parent Teachers' Association were his responsibilities. As a result of Mr. Gahr's efforts, Excelsior became one of the top ten of the hit parade of schools.
