Through co-ordination of student and faculty activities, Miss Rankin holds the lcey to the smooth manner in which the Excelsior campus functions as a unified school. BERNICE RANKIN I'ice-l'1-1'n1-1'pal . 7 . . . I ll' 5 'MCG' I U'lCL,9Cl With her quietness of manner and charm of personality, Miss Tombs, Girls' Vice-Principal at Excelsior, has set an example which the entire Girls' League has strived to attain. While directing the many phases of student government affairs, keeping all organizations intact, and fulfilling other numerous duties, she has been admired by both the boys and girls with whom she comes in contact. WILLIAM KAH M Boys' Vice-Principal LUCl LE TOM BS Girls, View-Przllclprll oyji QAM- rincipa Concerning himself chiefly with an under- standing of the problems of the boys at Ex- celsior is Mr. Kahm, who is completing his first year as Boys' Vice-Principal. Through his leadership in the Boys' League and campus groups, he has interested himself in the activities and welfare of the boys of Excelsior. BUSINESS MANAGER The responsibility of ordering all supplies for the entire school and, greatest of all, talcing charge of the extensive building program which Excelsior has undertalcen during this past year, have been taslxs of Mr. Korsmeier, Business Manager. The efficient way in which he has carried through these matters ol business has been of greatest import to the smooth manner in which financial matters are handled at Excelsior. HENRY KORSM EIER lgllSIiIIl'.Y.N ,IIIIIIIIIHUW COUNSELOR As our counselor, her sympathetic and understanding personality has won her many warm friendships and a general, great admiration from the entire Student Body. Along with her most important taslc of helping us with our programs, she has count- less other duties to which to devote herself. Through all of them, how- ever, her guiding influence has been the inspiration needed to spur many a student on to higher goals. ATTENDANCE OFFICER As supervisor of all records of attendance, Mr. Little has carried out his duties with much diligence. His fine spirit of co-operation with stu- dents and faculty alilce has made him a well-lilced person during his first year as an important part of that great wheel made up of the administration at Excelsior. FRANK LITTLE S11pe1'z'i.mr of AIIFIHIIIIICC DIRECTOR OF GUIDANCE His is the guiding hand which has been over all plans carried out through the Orientation, Healthful Living, Progress of Manlfind, Amer- ican History, and Senior Problems classes. These guiding plans have successfully directed many students of Excelsior in their strivings for a higher social living and a better un- derstanding of our world. ELIZABETH VVATKINS l.'u1m.-'vlul' RICHARD GAHR lIi1'f'1'Inr ual' filliilrllifif I3- acugy Onward and upward has truly signified the aspirations of this year's faculty. Each member of that large body has seemed to be striving through the different shades of school life to prepare the students for those stars to which they have hitched their dreams. y To aid us students in the development of our different talents and abilities, we have specialized teachers in each department, working together for the same end, to help make us better qualified citizens for the world of tomorrow. With enthusiastic guidance in the classes and in extra-curricular activi- ties. they have offered greater opportunities to all with whom they have come in contact. They have also given us, in a much larger sense, a true understanding of how men and women, all striving for the same goal. but perhaps in different phases, can work together and through co-operation, accomplish their purpose. From the recollection of the past. they have shown us how to think more clearly and constructively and how to plan for that world whch is soon to be ours. To further the professional advancement of teaching and to offer better instruction to us as students, a new organization, the Faculty Asso- ciation, has been formed, with energetic Mr. Lunde as president. Headed by our president, Ted Stoker, we had a hilarious Sopho- more party and talent show in the gym. lollowed by delicious re- freshments. The Sophomore girls entertained their little sisters, the Freshmen girls, in the auditorium with a rally. With the willing help of our advisers, Mrs. Dial and Mr. Joyce, we gave a Question Marlq dance to which the whole student body was invited. Everyone dressed according to what he thought the theme was to be, and a prize was given tor the costume which came closest to this theme. All in all, we had a year which proved to be one ot the most eventful and successful Sophomore years in the history of Excelsior. SOPI-IOMORE OFFICERS Row I.-'Lola Wright, Song Leader, Joan. We were very much bewildered at Irist. but soon we began signing up for com- mittees, electing our own ollicers and representatives, and starting busy careers as students ot Excelsior. With our president, Doug Travis. and our advisers, Mrs. Johnson and Mr. Chenney, we had a lively class party with a program in the auditorium. This year we have also been represented on the Rally Committee and in other student government activities. As we grow in experience, watch us become the leaders of tomorrow. gs -67, .www on 4-kms, , . sw . aww I ... M,,A:.Nmw,!- ,li FRESI-IMAN STEERING COMMITTEE Row l.-- D. Bvnsrm, P. Brcndlr' B. Assignment sheets, writing, reporting, proof-reading, make- up, head sheets, and distributing went to make up a typical week for the Life Staff members. Each Wednesday, the finished edition was eagerly awaited by the members of the Staff and the school as a whole. With first semester editor, Don Wood, and second sem- ester, Mariory Standley, the Life brought to the students a full picture of plays, campus activities, elections, dances, parties, and gossip. Jack Bowell, Joan Tilton The American family is very skeptical about the ghost: nevertheless. the eldest daughter meets the ghost face to face. The quaint, delightful romance that followed was the plot of the story. As the curtain closed on the last act, the loud applause told what the audience thought of the entire production. The experiences of the happy-go-lucky Vanderhof household formed the comic background of the story. It all began on a quiet day when Rheba was balcing coolcies, Penny was writing her play, Essie was practicing ballet, and Ed playing his xylophone. lt was on such a scene that Tony first saw Alice's family. This was bad enough. but when Tony's family saw an even more exaggerated situation, the climax was reached. But true to form love conquered all, and the rollicking comedy ended. f-lonors go to the director, Mr. Valentine, and the stage director, Mr. Stanley. This year the combined Music and Dramatic Departments presented Gloria, by Katharine Kester, one of the most beautiful Biblical plays ever to be presented at Excelsior. The celestial music of the Choir and Girls' Glee Club provided a background for the story of a shepherd who stays behind to tend a wounded lamb, of a frightened mother who flees from the wrath of Herod, and of a Wise Man who uses his gift to the Christ Child to buy the safety of a baby. Their loving sacrifices were rewarded by a heavenly vision of the nativity scene. The play, music, and costumes were lovely. The school can well be proud of its tradition and especially of this year's play, the credit for which goes to Miss Stewart, Mr. Valentine, Mr. Lunde, Mr. Stanley, and to all those who toolc part.
