STEERING IIUMNIITTEE Eager, alert little Freshmen, we entered the portals of Excelsior, gazing in bewilderment at the many buildings. How could We get from the top floor of the Auditorium to the English Building in five minutes? lWe know now that even some Seniors have difficulty going shorter distances in that length of timell We did, however, learn to make it in record time. Soon we became adjusted to life at Excelsior and are now full-fledged Pilots. With our president, Richard lohnson, at the helm, directed by Mr. Kahm and Miss Hopper as our advisers, We held a snappy class party, exhibiting our talents on the stage of the Auditorium and serving tasty refreshments in the Girls' Gym. Carrying on the traditions established by our predecessors, we have continued the Freshman Campus Committee. Watch us the next three years! Row 5: G. Sides, R. Steward, D. Iohnson, K. Gorman. This League was again taken by a fast and tricky team under' the coaching of Mr. Robert Ashton and Mr. Floyd Maxham, The Pilots started their season by taking the two pracice games with ease and then by running over their first two League games. The fifth game of this year was the first game the Pilots had lost in two years of outstanding football playing. The biggest thrill of the year was the game with Whittier. The Excelsior Airmen ran circles around the Cardinals and defeated them with a high score. Traveling to Calexico to meet a tough team, the indestructible Pilots took the last game of their well- played season. 4 EXCELSIOR ST. Because of an upset schedule this year, Coach Ashton's baseball team has played only a few of its League games. The season was started off with high hopes as one after another the Varsity met and defeated opponents in practice games. The San Gabriel Valley League was started when the Pilots defeated Montebello, in the first League game. As the Annual goes to press, it leaves the Pilots with ten more League games to play, but with the spirit and sportsmanship that are Excelsior's and with the results so tar, it is a certainty that the Varsity will make a place for themselves in the League.
