IEE PHI CIP L Born in Susanville, Miss Rankin is a native Californian and the daughter of a Superior Court Iudge in Glenn County. She attended the University of California, and has traveled a great deal in the West. She especially knows the Western National Parks, and has always been a lover of the mountains and the desert. Her teaching' career started in Nevada, was continued with naturalization work, and then with her position at Excelsior where she' taught history before becoming Vice-Principal, She is a naturalist to the extent of being an authority on the subject, likes hiking, and is an excellent horse-woman. Her great interest is in people. She is a reader and student of philosophy, tries to understand whomever she meets and will go to great length to help anyone in trouble. Although she appreciates the art of the cinema, she dislikes many movies that aim at nothing in particular, and she holds a great distaste for funny papers. She likes nothing better than good cowboy music, but can- not stand Hawaiian music. Her background and her knowledge of people perfectly fit her job of being Vice-Principal to Excelsior's nine hundred students. Often working many extra hours in her office. she bears out her philosophy of helping everyone both privately and officially. Counselor Miss Watkins is a real Southerner. She was born at Eureka Springs, Ar- kansas, a well known resort. Follow- ing a high schooling in St. Louis, her education was finished at the Uni- versity of Kansas, where she received her M. A. degree. She lives in Nor- walk with her mother and is the only girl in a family of four. One brother is a Captain in the Army now sta- tioned at Panama, and the other two are lawyers. She likes everyone and is liked by everyone she meets: still, she has never been a lover of social life. She reads a great deal, includ- ing the comic section, loves classical music, and is usually in bed by nine every night. Before coming to Ex- celsior, she taught in both Montana and Colorado. She has traveled ,over the entire United States, but her fav- orite place is California.
