They take the part of men behind the scenes, and their only remuneration is much work and little reward, for they are paid no salaries and serve only as representatives of the com- munity. The policies of administration, the building of new struc- tures on the campus, all of the financial expenditures, come before their eyes, as do the serious discipline problems. Once a month in the Board room they meet in regular session and are subject to call at any time for special meetings. Usually their work carries them into midnight. From their number they elect a president and a clerk yearly. They serve for a period of three years and are eligible for reelection. Whatever blame there is goes to the school board, but, before that, a lot of credit is due them. The success and future of Excelsior is very much in their hands. W. L. SCI-IEIFELE M. T.
