To you, this Annual is dedicated, whose examples have in- spired us to keep our eyes on the forward goal and not to turn back. Lives of great men all remind us We can make our lives sublime And departing leave behind us Footprints on the sands of time. Sulperintendenfs Message The year of 1959 is one that will long be remembered because it is historic in that it marks the end of the Excelsior High School as such, through a merger with lake Park, Diamond Lake Township, and part of Westport Township. This will go into effect Iuly 1 under the name of lake Park Community School Dis- tr1ct, as voted on by the people concerned. A special tribute is given in this year's annual to all of those who have graduated from Excelsior School and are making their contri- bution to society in the different communities in which they live. No one can begin to sum up the total good that, because of the teachers who have worked so faithfully to guide, the . parents who have devoted their love and atten- tion, the citizens who have made it possible, and the graduates who have left their mark on society, has been accomplished as a result of the existence of the Excelsior Consolidated School. I am sure that all who have con- tributed are proud of having belonged in some way to such an educational movement as has been in progress at Excelsior. I am glad that I have been privileged to have a small part in the preparation and training of some of the many wonderful students who have graduated here. I am con- fident that the fruit of their experiences will bring inspiration and success to many lives throughout the years to come. It has been a pleasure for my family and me to serve with such splendid co-operation and support as have been given in this commu- nity. The attitude of the patrons and students alike has been a great inspiration to us and we are very grateful for it. Since the community of Excelsior faces a new experience in education for the fu- ture in their newly re-organized school district, I am sure they will keep uppermost in their thinking that which is best for their boys and girls. We, who serve education as a career, have a keen interest in every child, regardless of race, religion, or environ- ment. It is with a great love for all children that we dedicate our services to our com- munities, regardless of the center of the activity, and plan, guide, and direct such activities in and out of the classroom in such a way that we feel would be best for all children concerned. Our prayer is that we may help in our small way to create that which best serves those who face the problems of education in the future, and that we may continue to see fruit of their labors during the years to come. Standing tensely on the side lines is the former Janet Galema and her three little Adams. Barbara Bell as an instructor in a Cosmotology school. Of course, all of her students have naturally curly hair. Gary Clark is now Professor Clark at Iowa State College. His classes are overrun by girls whose admiration for his naturally curly hair make it dif- ficult for them to keep their minds upon the subject. Sharon Crooks writing a novel about her horse, which is now known as Francis the talking mule, the second. Otis Elkin is now in business for himself. He is popping popcorn on the street corner in Lake Park on Saturday nights. Anita Flint is still not married: however, she is wearing another ring, and this is sure to be her one and only. Lorna Harms has now finished beauty school and is a famous Hollywood beauty operator. She specializes in red heads, only. Judy Johnson is now living in Hartley. She and her husband have their own gas station and are now raising their own little gas pumpers. Karmen McFarland is now holding down two jobs, a farmer's wife and that of mother. She and Harold are married and have four little Goodells. Norman Nattress is managing the Okoboji Speed Bowl, with Sputnik 7, Vanguard 8, and Flying Saucer 9 running a special feature, making stops at the moon, Mars, and Moscow, and then returning to Okoboji. Kenneth Schlichting and Nancy decided that those Saturday night kisses were too few and far apart so they are now married and being kept very busy- farming I SENIORS' BIRTHDAYS Dean Adams . . . . Mixed Chorus The play opens in the home of Elisabeth. It is Christmas Eve and the household is busy preparing for the coming of Mary to Bethlehem. Esther, an orphan girl in Elisabeth's home, is finishing a lovely quilt as her gift for the coming Child. Elisabeth becomes worried that Mary has not yet arrived, so she goes into the streets to seek her cousin. Esther is left to watch over the baby, John, and during this time many strangers knock at the door. Joseph, whom Esther does not know, comes seeking shelter for himself and his wife. Esther offers them the lambing shed as shelter. She is also visited by the wise men, the shepherds, and some of her young friends. When Elisabeth returns and finds her cousin there in the lambing shed with the newborn Child, she and the others pay homage to the newborn King, laying their gifts at His feet. I was watching the devil's funeral, she replied. What do you mean--the devil's funeral? Her astonished mother asked. Wel1, I was watching the cars of the funeral go by and counting them, and a man next to me said the poor devil was only sick about a week. He: Every night I dream of a sign on a door and I push it and push it, but I can't open it. She: What does the sign say? He: Pul1. The teacher was discussing with her class the importance of being care- ful when crossing the streets. Oh, don't worry, said six-year- old Anita. I always wait for the empty space to come by. WE NOMINATE FOR OBLIVION-- People who say, I've got some- thing to tell you. No, I guess I'd better not. Stockings with no mates. Television shows that I have seen before. Dogs that bark at four o'clock in the morning. She: Am I the first girl that you ever kissed? Otis: Now that you mention it, you do look familiar. Iudy: What's your cat's name? Gary: Ben Hur. Iudy: How did you happen to hit on that name? Gary: Well we called it Ben until it had kittens . From way down in my cranium I, this prediction makeg That, if you eat uranium You'll get atomic ache . 1 st boy: How old are you? 2nd boy: I'm five. How old lst boy: I don't know. Do you like girls ? lst boy: No. 2nd boy 2nd boy ' You're four . aooaooocooocoaoo are you ? Dean: Waiter, it's been half an hour since I ordered turtle soup. Waiter: Sorry, sir, but you know how turtles are . While on vacation in the country, the sweet young girl from the city be- came friendly with Kenny who lived on a nearby farm.
