As seventh graders we stood in awe of the huge building, the wise and mature upperclassmen, and of the entirely new way of life. After spending one year at the new Junior High School where, as the highest class, we reigned in glory, once again we entered the halls of Ewing High to occupy the low and un- worthy position of Freshman. Early in the year many of our brave boys volunteered to show their abilities on the foot- ball and basketball teams. The spirited cheer- leaders encouraged and inspired many of our victories. We soon undertook the task of organizing our class. We selected a committee which es- tablished our constitution to guide us through the ensuing years. We will always remember Mrs. Bilbee, whom we chose as our class ad- visor, for the help and encouragement she gave us. Towards the end of the year excite- ment filled the air as the day for our class elec- tions drew near. From those nominated we chose as our first officers: President, Rob Riordan, Vice President, Tom Sandhoff, Recording Secretary, Joanne Bassano, and Treasurer, Bruce Hughes. On May 31 we held, as our first class affair, the Freshman Frolic. Will we ever forget the fun and excitement of the balloon dances, the multiplication dances, and the hilarious contests? With hope and anticipation for the future we happily left our freshman year behind ancl looked forward to the advancement and pres- tige of becoming sophomores. During our sophomore year we worked hard to raise money for the many activities which make our high school years meaningful and worthwhile. We held our first big project, the Autumn Hop, on November 1. We all had a wonderful time. Once again our classmates History went out for sports. How honored we felt to see our fellows on the varsity and J.V. teams. With the aid of the talented boys in our class, the varsity football team became the city cham- pions. We will always be proud that our sopho- more class played a small part in winning a trophy for our school. Do you remember those delicious chocolate bunnies? We worked hard to make our Easter Candy sale a success. By the end of the sale most of us could not stand to look at an Easter egg. On May 9 we held our second sophomore dance Twilight Time. On the same day three of our classmates, Rob Riordan, Tom Sandhoff, and Kay Worthington, were elected as student council officers. With the beautiful blue deco- rations providing a twilight effect, our first dated affair served as a celebration as well as a dance. Do you remember Rob and the Musicats? As the last official duty as sophomores we elected the officers for our junior year. Those elected were: President, Paul Palatt, Vice Presi- dent, Jon West, Recording Secretary, Joanne Bassano, Corresponding Secretary, Addie Pe- tranto, and Treasurer, Pat Evanko. Embarking on the new role of upperclassmen, we began our iunior year with the annual maga- zine drive. We were pleased and proud that our class held the best record up to date, with a total amount of six thousand dollars. The three who sold the greatest amount of subscrip- tions were, Sheila Geaghion, Rob Riordan, and Lucille Mazzetelli. Most of us will cherish the stuffed animals we received for selling over fifty dollar's worth of subscriptions. Our treasury received a considerable boost from our efforts during this drive. One of the most important events in our high school careers occured October 31. With much noise and much excitement, we lined up in the Home Economics cottage to be fitted for our class rinos. Not a single day passed without someone chasing after Mrs. Bilbee to find out if the rings had arrived, until finally early in March that long awaited day came. Remember how we showed off our rings to anyone who would look at them? After many weeks of hectic excitement, thefday for our first formal dance, the Junior Prom arrived. What a lovely time we had during An Evening in Paris ! We whirled through a delightful evening as the Trentones Band provided the music and the Lorstan Photographer took speckled pictures which will serve as reminders in the years to come. In spite of the parachute problems, the tall white Eiffel Tower, the side-walk cafes, and the Paris street scenes helped transform the gym into a Paris dream. After the Prom and the Christmas vacation, we began casting for the Junior Play. Many of our hidden talents came forth as the curtain rose on George Washing- ton Slept Here . Because of the cooperation and fine work of everyone connected with the play, especially the leading characters, Tom Sandhoff, Kay Worthington and Marilyn Meager, our production proved to be a huge success. It-was hard to realize that only one more year at Ewing lay ahead for us, but the three years of anticipation quickly gave way to the most important year of growth and enioy- ment. As some of us waited to hear from colleges and others from iobs, we began to realize the many important decisions and difficult tasks which lay before us during this most important year. The moans and groans of many of us became a part of the classroom scene. Oh, Mr. Ingenbrandt, not another term paper! Un- der the leadership of our senior class officers: President, Tom Sandhoffg Vice President, Frank Hollins, Recording Secretary, Joanne Bassanog Corresponding Secretary, Addie Petranto, Treas- urer, Carol Lavan and Historian, Toby Kosof- sky, we planned to make this a year to remem- ber. Early in the year we sponsored an all school dance called Autumn. The financial success of the dance paved the way for similar dances in the future. Time quickly passed and the date for the Senior Play crept up on us just as quick- ly. We chose a rather unusual play, The Skin of Our Teeth. lt was presented on January 22 and 23. How appropriate that name is! This play required three complete scenery changes. Will we ever forget all the work the fine stage crew did? Gary? In addition to giving a fine performance with Tom Sandhoff, Pat Evanko, Audrey Everson, and Penny Cubberly taking the leads, we held the record for the largest patron ticket list totaling seventy-eight persons. As the class worked on the play, the yearbook staff was busy organizing material for Destiny Unknown. Can you recall the day Sam Sciar- rotta lost the subscription book of the Yearbook? As spring fever took hold of many of us and we found ourselves daydreaming more than usual, the senior trip to Washington, D.C. pro- vided welcomed relief. Can we ever forget the fun and excitement on the train, the boat, and the sightseeing tours? What about that talent show? We all experienced a feeling of close- ness to our old and new friends. Even though we returned to the normal routine of everyday school life, that common disease called Senior- itis firmly took hold of many of us. As May 20, the Senior Prom day, drew near so our high school days were also ending. After dancing from nine to one, the PTA sponsored our post prom, a late dinner, more entertainment, a full length movie, and a closing breakfast. With heavy lids and tired feet we left behind a night to remember. As we solemnly walked down the aisle at graduation, we realized that we were embark- ing on many separate journeys with Destiny Unknown . Some of us wondered where we would be ten years from now. Ewing High, our school, our Alma Mater true, will always remain dear to us and be remembered as a very im- portant and rewarding part of our lives. 5 -s 'Q i , I lx Gb. Senior Closs Trip The most looked-forward-to, the most enjoyable, and the most memorable event of our high school years is the senior class trip. With excitement, anticipation, and a little noise, we, the class of 1960, clamored aboard the Morning Congressional at Penn Station on April 6th and embarked on the long awaited journey. The train took us to Baltimore where we switched our lug- gage to sightseeing buses and settled down for the drive to Annapolis. After touring the grounds and the tomb of John Paul Jones, we watched those handsome mid- shipmen march in perfect formation to their classes. The sight was indeed a thrilling one. We ate lunch at Carvel Hall-Anyone for ham steak?-and once again boarded the buses to proceed to Washington, D.C. The view of the Capitol building as we came over the hill just out- side of Washington thrilled and inspired many of us. After having our class picture taken in front of the Capitol, we toured the building. Before returning to Maryland, we toured Washington and with the bus drivers acting as guides, we viewed the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and many other impres- sive buildings. We boarded the steamer, our home for the next two nights, at Baltimore. Although some of us found it a little hard to digest our food while being bounced around, we managed to survive our first ship- decks. Too excited to sleep, we settled down for a long night's rest in preparation for a long exciting day of touring beautiful and historic Williamsburg. The steamer docked at Norfolk, Virginia at 6:30 A.M. while we were enjoying our breakfast. Before touring Williamsburg, we stopped at the Marines Museum and at Yorktown where we were able to view the famous battlefield. Walking through Williamsburg and touring the historic buildings and shops allowed us the oppor- tunity to actually relive the history of our country. A movie of Williamsburg during the Revolutionary War days put us in the proper mood to appreciate and en- joy the historical value of the city. Back on the steamer for more shipboard fun after another eventful day and enjoyable lunch at the Williamsburg Lodge, we were entertained by our fellow students. The boat rocked and rolled with the laughter and shouts brought on by cer- tain students as they danced and sang their way to fame. After breakfast the next morning, we carried our suit- cases to the buses and set out for Washington where board meal with no casualties. After dinner, we enjoyed an evening of dancing and walking the slightly windy W-nl P -aft tl, - V' X Xv we toured the F.B.l. building and the Archives building. Some of us got to experience the thrill of seeing the Lincoln Memorial while others were fortunate enough to climb the 898 steps of the Washington Monument. The delicious lunch at Hogates Restaurant refreshed us, and, with anticipation, we rode to Arlington National Ceme- tery where we watched the changing of the guard. We spent the remainder of the day at Mount Vernon where we enjoyed touring the house, viewing the breath-taking scene across the Potomac River, and stocking up on souvenirs and refreshments. Weary but happy seniors boarded the buses for a last ride through Washington to the Union Station where we boarded the train for the ,gf return trip to Trenton. After a hurried dinner on the train-What did we eat anyway?-we settled down amid singing, card games, and an authentic water pistol fight. We arrived home wishing that those three days were just beginning instead of ending, With sentimental feelings, extremely weary seniors stumbled to the awaiting cars to return home after three glorious days.
