GEJIBASS llHlllllSQlll'lDllRQY lt was In the year l944 when a glee ful seventeen ambltlous youngsters began the clnmb up Mt Knowledge They were Marllyn Bunker Max Carnlne Jerome Glackun John Heuck Geraldsne Hughes Sharon Sheldon Kelth Johnson Mary Koehnk Darrell Kruse Larry LeClarr Den ny Long DarrellLorenzen Arlene Schnlder Marlene Schnlder Don Schoelerman Bob Schoenewe and Dennle Kurtz Our first gutde was Mnss Phyllrs Wussnnk As we reached our frrst goal of T000 feet and proceeded onto the second level we lost Max Carmne Denny Long and Dennis Kurtz Thus brought our llttle party down to T4 but we soon ganned two more wuth the addntron of Dee Ann Wenk and Gaylon Ott As we ascended to the 3000 ft mark we changed our gunde to Mass Joan Van Wyck We lost Darrell Lor was agaun remforced by two new addr tlons Norman Nrelsen and Jackie Le Clarr At the 4000 ft level our party agaln shrunk by one from the orlgnnal T7 with the loss of Geraldine Hughes Jerome Glackln Darrell Kruse and Sharon Shel don We enlisted three new members wuth the addrtuon of Jamce Klett Joel Moeller and Jene Baum Our new guude became Mlss Mavis Saunders We had attalned the 5000 ft level and were stnll golng strong wnth the addltlon of Gary Ott Larry LaSourd Danuel Lee Roberts and Max Huffman We were nearung our next goal when Gary Ott and Joel Moeller left us We again changed guudes to Mass Frances Knutsen At the 6000 ft level we lost Larry Le Claur and Max Huffman and gained Har len Knapp and Ruth Dnrksen We had now reached the halfway mark of our moun tam At the start of the 7000 ft level we agann greeted a new guide Mr Richard Morrrs and gained courage a sze able Increase rn our climbers The new addltlons were Vera Kruse Jack North Harland Wall Rnchard Stallman Norma Lee Schmder and Arthur Domres We suffered one loss with Vera Kruse leavlng us before we had reached our next camp Our excltement was hugh at the 8000 ft level as we would soon enter a new and unknowr' regnon We gained Bob Morfltt and Robert Steffens at thas time and lost Jack North and Arthur Domres along the way We reached the 9000 ft level and made another suzeable gann wnth the addlhon of Dorothy Engel Le Ora Olson May nord Ott and Mary Ann Kimball W suffered not a slngle casualty at thus poxnt of our tourney At the l0000 ft level we lost Jackle LeClarr and Gaylon Ott and ganned Ron ald Vande Mark Betty Kung and Marlun Wlmmer Our morale rarsed consnderably at the ll 000 ft level as we could see the end gust around the corner At thus stage we lost Norma Lee Schnuder and recenved Jlm Walton and Jackie LeCla1r Into our party The 12000 ft peak at last we had reached ut though our casualties were heavy We lost Dorothy Engel Ronald Vande Mark Jackle LeClalr and Arlene Schmder Our party galned Curtns Jass Those of us who were along for the en ture expedrtlon from base to peak were Marnlyn Bunker Marlene Schmder Bob Schoenewe John Heuck and Don Schoel erman It was a long hard clrmb but we enloyed every foot of ut .
