The 1981 football season for the Evergreen Vikings was a season of both frustration and happiness. The frustrations came from a series of injuries taking seven starters out of our line-up from two to six games. With the lack of depth that we had, we just could not realistically have this happen and remain a good football team. This was very unfortunate, as we had thought that we had the making of a possible 10-0 team. Our football team was led by a group of seniors that simply would not give up. Although a 5-5 record may not seem very impressive, the coaching staff felt that with all things consid- ered, that the football team did a tremendous job. The highlights of the season were the second consecutive win over Wauseon, and the team coming back for a 5-5 record season after being 2-4 after six games. The win over Wauseon had to be the greatest defensive game turned in by any team in the history of the school. We lost a lot of fine senior football players who will be hard to replace. However as in all aspects of life, life continues. We have the nucleus of a fine football team for next year, and barring injuries that we had this year, we will be a good football team in 1982. 42 Jump on it, it’s a thousand dollar bill! I Karen Souders, will to any coming 4-County girls, my ability to flirt with guys from other schools while going steady without getting caught. Enjoy 4- County as much as I did. I Tena Barden, will to Lisa McKelvey and Dee Johnson the ability to live through their last year at Evergreen and to have the same action next year as we’ve had this year!! I Patricia A.
