' 'Todays world thinks too much of its rights, Too little of its responsibilities Let's accept this challenge.1' The Evergreen Yearbook Staff Proudly Presents The 1979 VALHALLA Volume XII EVERGREEN HIGH SCHOOL 1-14544-6 Metamora, Ohio 43540 TABLE OF CONTENTS DEDICATION 3 SENIORS 4 JUNIORS 33 SOPHOMORES 37 FRESHMEN 41 ADMINISTRATION 45 CUSTODIANS, COOKS AND BUS DRIVERS 54 SECRETARIES 59 FALL SPORTS 64 WINTER SPORTS 81 SPRING SPORTS 92 ACTIVITIES 107 ORGANIZATIONS 121 ELEMENTARY 164 JUNIOR HIGH 164 ADVERTISEMENTS 195 IN REMEMBRANCE Near a shady wall a rose once grew, Budded and blossomed in God's free light, Watered and fed by morning dew, Shedding its sweetness day and night. As it grew and blossomed fair and tall. Slowly rising to loftier height, It came to a crevice in the wall; Through which there shone a beam of light. Onward it crept with added strength, With never a thought of fear or pride, It followed the light through the crevice-length And unfolded itself on the other side. The light, the dew, the broadening view, Were found the same as they were before; And it lost itself in beauties new, Breathing its fragrance more and more. Shall claim of death cause us to grieve And make our courage faint or fall? Nay, let us faith and hope; The rose still grows beyond the wall, Scattering fragrance far and wide, Just as it did in the days of yore, Just as it did on the other side, Just as it will forevermore Michael H. Willson A.L. Fink We the Vahalla Staff and the Senior Class would like to dedicate this yearbook to Mike Willson who passed away January 25th 1979. Freshman — Basketball F.F.A. Three of the four television team returned this year. They are Tim Cothrel, Walt Marvin, and Dan Meiring. The new addition to the team is Mike Swartz. On December 10 they made their second appearance on the show High School Quiz. They were matched against Woodmore High School. They lost the first round match by only 70 points, 190 to 120. They worked extremely hard and should be commended for their improvement and good showing on T.V. All four T. V. team members will be back next year, and we are proud to have them represent Evergreen. It is a class which takes cooperation, dedication, and determination on everyone's part. While we are a class few in numbers, we are abundant in effort. It is a class in which you get to express your creative ideas. This makes every book truly unique to each class. In a single semester the class works together to put together the Evergreen Valhalla. This task would be next to impossible if it weren't for our editor Ed Vasko, and our advisor Mr. Tittle. Volume 11 of the VIKING LEGEND under went a change in format. The paper changed from the mimeographed style of past years to being printed by a professional printer. This change gave students a chance to become experienced at selling advertisements and printing photography. At the 11th Annual High School Media Day, held at the University of Toledo, the VIKING LEGEND received a Third Honorable Mention in the Best of Paper catagory. The VIKING LEGEND was one of forty papers selected from the Northern Ohio area, and the only one from Northwestern Ohio.
