A Tribute to Seniors The class of '74 has finally made it through four years together. We can now look back and reflect on the good times. Our freshman year the class of '74 entered Evergreen wondering what it would be like. We soon found out as Homecoming plans soon began. Our attendents Diane Borland and Kay Simmons rode on a covered wagon with our theme being Paint Your Wagon Green and Gold for our first float. Then of course came all the initiations into various clubs. G.A. A. was quite something as girls ran around asking the senior boys to a dance. Of course they nev- er accepted. Our first Mardi Gras was exciting as Bev Herrick and Dennis Overmyer rep- resented our class. Many of our frosh discovered their acting ability as Bye Bye Birdie was cast. It was a huge success and we discovered we'd made it through our first year. As fall arrived we entered as sophomores and discovered we could now sell passes to the swimming pool to the new frosh, the class of '75. Homecoming again started the year out right with our theme We've Only Just Begun with Cheryl Downing and Annette Wilson being our attendants. We had indeed just begun because we were getting better all the time as we gained confidence, we no longer were afraid of upperclassmen nor did we rush to class as the first bell rang each morning, we knew our way around by then. Spring arrived and brought the Mardi Gras with Cathy O'Neil and Tom Himelhan representing us. As school closed our class rings came in and stones were flashed everywhere. Report cards came out and most of us discovered we'd passed American History. Our junior year rolled in and we realized it would be great, and we were right. We knew our class was the greatest and had the most spirit as we had proven in the past two years, by winning spirit week, class competition and skit competition. We knew we could do it for four years and we did. Homecoming was great as Cathy O'Neil and Bev Herrick rode on our 1st place float entitled Rub-A-Dub-Dub . We now had a problem with Homecoming over, we realized we needed money for our Prom. A paper drive was decided upon and was a huge success. A Prom would be held, the theme would be Country Gardens . First though, the Mardi Gras was on hand and Sue Miller and Jim Ritter represented the class of '74 well. On April 27 and 28th 1973 the halls of EHS were converted to Gardens as the Jr. -Sr. Prom was held and was the best Prom Evergreen had ever seen. The school year ended with the juniors hoping to be SENIORSI Our senior year started as any had and Bev Herrick, Cheryl Downing and Kay Simmons vying for Homecoming Queen. Our float entitled The Morning After went around the track and Kay was crowned. Next our Senior pictures arrived and we really felt like Seniors. The Mardi Gras rolled in again and the Seniors came out triumphant with Sue Kalnbach escorted by Mark Baker being crowned Mardi Gras Queen. Our class has had many good times in these halls, we've laughed, joked, had parties • and made new friends. That's why it was hard for most of us to think about leaving. But I believe our class can and will make something great of themselves. . The poster at the right, was made to go along with the write up above. It is ftiade up of pictures of activ- ities the Seniors did throughout the year. If you will notice the middle, it symbolizes our graduating year 74 and is framed with other pictures. This poster will he remembered by Sen- iors as the years pass and memories fade. We would like to thank Linda Simpkins for making this for us and writing such a thoughtful article. 10
