LSD PROJECT This year, the Metamora-Fulton Seniors were involved in a very worthwhile and educational government project. Their goal was to draw up, introduce, and gain support for, a bill banning the possession of LSD, d-lysergic acid diethylimide, in Ohio. They have done a splendid job. The project, headed by J. R. Vogelsang, started when two Se- niors, Gloria Doyle and Marianne Pinkleman each wrote term papers on LSD. The class was very interested in LSD, and also in taking a more active part in state government, therefore Mr. Vogel- sang suggested trying to put a bill through the legislature. It wasn’t long before the project was moving full speed ahead. The class was divided into several committees with Gloria and Marianne the co- chairmen of the project. Diane Buckenmeyer headed the bill com- mittee, Lois Kasper and Brenda Werner the publicity, and Kathy Gillen, Jill Shaffer, and Bonnie Hill, the typing committee. The entire class was kept busy addressing and stuffing envelopes, and other odd jobs that needed to be done. The publicity received on our project was outstanding. After eight of the committee heads, along with Mr. Vogelsang, went to Columbus, we were covered in fifteen Ohio newspapers, and on television newscasts. The two term papers were combined and distributed, along with the questionaires and LSD literature. Mari- anne and Gloria were on WSPD radio one day for 15 minutes, and then again that evening with Mr. Vogelsang on Art Berry’s People’s Opinion from 9-11 p.m. Some of the students are still giving speeches to many organizations and groups on the dangers of LSD. Seniors are very proud of the fine job they have done on their government project. They have learned by experience, and, we believe, helped others while learning.
