SENIORS The of MET AMOR A-FULTON high school are proud 310 Swanton Street to present Metamora, Ohio to the you METEOR A TIME FOR WORK OR A TIME FOR PLAY The Metamora-Fulton Seniors have decided, through experience that there is definitely a time for work and a time for play. The following introductory section will show various pictures depicting activities which took place throughout the year. We, the Seniors, have decided that it is hard to draw the line between work and play. We will therefore, leave the decision of “work or play” up to you, but remember that work and play go hand in hand. Ain’t we sweet! I got lost on measure six . . . It looks like a winner . . . Sorry Harold, some people never learn to fly . . . 8 Seniors working! Miracles never cease . . . He’s feeling his cheerios, but he had wheaties for breakfast!!! 9 Now On With The Show . . . Mr. O. J. Piter We, the seniors, would like to dedicate our yearbook to the memory of Ollie J. Pifer, who served as our first superintendent of the Evergreen Local district public schools. His was a life dedicated to education and public service. Mr. Pifer graduated from Metamora high school in 1928; De- fiance College, Defiance, in 1932, and received his M.A. degree from Toledo University in 1941. Since 1932, Mr. Pifer has been associated with the Metamora school, first as an instructor and coach, later as superintendent and his last two years as superintendent of the newly reorganized Evergreen Local school district (Metamora, Lyons, Fulton, and part of Chesterfield). PRINCIPAL OF EVERGREEN SCHOOL SYSTEM Leroy Bronell. . . attended Heidelberg College and Toledo University . . . Bachelor of Science in Education, Master’s Degree in Education . . . has been in education for 7 years. SUPERINTENDENT OF EVERGREEN SCHOOL SYSTEM Leland A. Dorsey . . . at- tended Bowling Green State University and Toledo Univer- sity . . . Bachelor of Science in Education, Master’s Degree in Education, and presently working on Doctorate . . . has been in education for 14 years. isIffsIssssslS Metamor a- Fulton Building—Principal Charles Mowery has at- tended Defiance College and Sienna Heights. Fulton Elementary Building— Principal Paul C. Cothrel has had 13 years of experience. He has attended Bowling Green State University, Univer- sity of Toledo, and Michi- gan State University. 12 BOARD OF EDUCATION Mrs. Gertrude Cook, Mr. Jack Taylor, Mr. Leland Dorsey, Mr. Stanley Ottgen, Mrs. Patricia Simon, Clerk; Mr. Herbert Barnes, Mr. Daryl Kleck. METAMORA BUILDING SENIORS LSD PROJECT This year, the Metamora-Fulton Seniors were involved in a very worthwhile and educational government project. Their goal was to draw up, introduce, and gain support for, a bill banning the possession of LSD, d-lysergic acid diethylimide, in Ohio. They have done a splendid job. The project, headed by J. R. Vogelsang, started when two Se- niors, Gloria Doyle and Marianne Pinkleman each wrote term papers on LSD. The class was very interested in LSD, and also in taking a more active part in state government, therefore Mr. Vogel- sang suggested trying to put a bill through the legislature. It wasn’t long before the project was moving full speed ahead. The class was divided into several committees with Gloria and Marianne the co- chairmen of the project. Diane Buckenmeyer headed the bill com- mittee, Lois Kasper and Brenda Werner the publicity, and Kathy Gillen, Jill Shaffer, and Bonnie Hill, the typing committee. The entire class was kept busy addressing and stuffing envelopes, and other odd jobs that needed to be done. The publicity received on our project was outstanding. After eight of the committee heads, along with Mr. Vogelsang, went to Columbus, we were covered in fifteen Ohio newspapers, and on television newscasts. The two term papers were combined and distributed, along with the questionaires and LSD literature. Mari- anne and Gloria were on WSPD radio one day for 15 minutes, and then again that evening with Mr. Vogelsang on Art Berry’s People’s Opinion from 9-11 p.m. Some of the students are still giving speeches to many organizations and groups on the dangers of LSD. Seniors are very proud of the fine job they have done on their government project. They have learned by experience, and, we believe, helped others while learning. Coach Peter Adamchak gave the boys the best advice and coaching possible, Phillip Georgia, Larry Simon and Mike Balazs managed the Varsity Tigers just like Tigers should be G-R-E-A-T! Varsity Cheerleaders Susan Fillinger, Barbara Lehman, Gloria Doyle and Suzanne Avina led the students with peppy cheers through an exciting season. Reserve Basketball Players Terry Garsey, Ricky Feeback, Pete Farley, Brad Iffland, Dave Duncan, Gory Loar, Pete Shaffer, Coach Peter Adamchak, Tom Rice, Steve Smith, Bob Nabel, Bruce Simon, Ted Albolt, Brent Barnaby, Sam Foreman, and Aaron Delaughter make up the great reserve team. Their managers Larry Simon, Phillip Georgia and Mike Balazs help make the team a success. Reserve Cheerleaders Marcia Wells, Joan Guthrie, Marianne Malone, and Marty Mears cheered the Reserve Tigers on to victory with their great school spirit. 76 Seniors 77 Pete Adamchak Coach OUR BOYS Up We Go! Where d It Go! Hey, you can't do that! Show off! It's Alive! Let Me Have It! Anybody for a hot potato? IN ACTION! We no pay! Dave at the line Bill at the line The Agony of waiting Watch this boys Okay boys, the line forms behind me! Mike goes up for two. BASKETBALL The Metamora-Fulton Tigers showed excellent hustle and spirit this year. Our varsity squad took over like real champs after losing almost the entire team last year. Although the scores showed somewhat of an off season, many of the games were hard fought to the very end. Coach Pete Adamchak did a marvelous job of teaching the boys, and the entire team seemed to improve as the season progressed. TRACK After a lapse of two years without a track team, Metamora finally got back into the groove. Although the team did not place very high in their meets, they showed an improvement of nearly 100% every time they attended. Next year’s team should place high among the leaders because there are very few seniors to be replaced. The team will also be getting some fine freshmen recruits from this year’s junior high team. 80 BASEBALL With the end of the fall baseball season, the Tigers had a one game advantage over Lyons for first place in league standing with a 6-1 win-loss record. As spring rolled around, the locals set out to better any record that MHS has ever had. Although they clinched top honors for the league early in the spring season, Metamora encountered a tragic end. It was in the Sectional Tournament that Delta put the Bengals out of State contention in a close 5-4 extra inning game. Next year’s team will definitely be hampered by the loss of Howard Becker, an all varsity pitcher for the last four years.
