The pictures you see are taken from a rehearsal. “The Egg and I” is a heart- warming comedy about Betty McDonald and her meeting with the mighty egg. When Mr. J. R. Vogelsang came to Met- amora High School he found that school spirit was lacking and decided to do some- thing about it. Taking the idea from his college days at Bowling Green State University, Mr. Vogel- sang organized a group of spirits for the purpose of sparking school spirit. He dub- bed them the SEERS and chose eight seniors to don the sheets, masks and other equipment that was needed. Signs appeared all over the school tell- ing the students of MHS to back the team, and spirit was on the rise. The members of the SEERS are: Randy DeVriendt, Bell Mitchey, Pat Komon, Judy Gee, Bev Flack, Dave Winn, Dave Pifer, Paul Lumbrezer and Classie Scott, who was added to the staff in the latter part of the basketball season. New members will be chosen by Mr. Vogelsang. Spirit is also the main goal of a group called the SPARTANS. After the organizing of the secret group, the SEERS, some MHS students thought that they should organize their own group. This group would not be secret and therefore could do some things the SEERS could not do. Sandi Nichols was elected president of the SPARTANS and members of the club were chosen from the junior and senior classes. At first the SEERS and SPARTANS did not get along but after signing a declaration that they were going to promote school spirit and not downgrade each other the fight for loyal fans began. Mixed Cfiorus Sings; “ 5o (jde Sound of Music” Bubbling with spirit and song the Metamora High School Mixed Chorus under the lively direction of Mrs. Alan Kreuz is going places. This year the chorus has traveled near and far to bring its melodious tunes to the ears of hundreds of listen- ers. An invitation by the Wauseon Kiwanis Club in February brought the entire Mixed Chorus to the Wauseon Municipal Building for part of the night’s entertain- ment. Several new ensembles have taken shape at MHS and also have traveled the length and breadth of North-western Ohio to sing. Many organizations have asked for the assistance of these fine groups to provide entertainment of all kinds. A bit of humor was injected into each arrangement. So with a feeling of pride we turn this glowing page of 1966 Metamora Meteor. Mrs. Kreuz has given the chorus a new enjoyment into songs they sing and opened many a new music book for them this school year to find new and interest- ing songs and routines for the ‘66’ chorus. 48 9n burn Wiffi bime The most widely traveled trio in the chorus is composed of (standing) Tom Moore, (from right) Sandi Nichols and Bev Flack. At the beginning of the season the boys’ main difficulty was at the foul line, however, this improved as the season progressed and the practices grew longer and more tedious. Seniors leaving the varsity squad are: Randy DeVriendt, Jerry Gee, Jeff Geer, Mike Delauter, Dave Winn, Dave Pifer, Mark Phillips and Bill Tripp. These senior boys have been a great asset to the team and will be missed. 54 Second Step to Varsity Boosting the Reserve team to victory are: Mary Ann Malone, Martha Mears, Marcia Wells, and Mary Nichols. This is the year they learn the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat, how to win without bragging, and to lose without bitterness, the true meaning of sportsmanship. This, the year of 1966, is when eleven boys learn the meaning of teamwork and take their first step to varsity. 56 Bengal’s Scoreboard TIGER OPPOSITION WE THEY McClure . . 77 64 North Central . . 71 76 Malinta . . 60 66 Delta . . 56 92 Fulton . . 59 58 Malinta . . 65 69 Pettisville . . 47 60 Otsego . . 49 42 Lyons . . 69 79 Maumee Valley Country Day School . . . 72 54 Northwood . . 76 60 Fayette . . 67 82 Fulton . . 60 61 Waldron . . 61 49 Pettisville . . 61 83 Lyons 74 McClure . . 60 62 Fayette . . 45 93 Ottawa Hills . . 50 78 TOURNAMENT GAMES Fulton 53 Ottawa Hills . . 58 74 Scores do not show the entire picture of the Tiger’s 1965-66 basketball season. Many of the contests were hard fought and only a last minute drive by their opponents brought them victory. Bright spot of the year came during the Semi-Sectional Tournament Games held at Swanton. In the first game the Bengal’s neatly disposed of the Raider’s of Fulton. Pre- game reports favored the Green Bears heavily and labeled the Tigers as pushovers. The Tigers proved these reports false and led Ottawa Hills at the half. Fatigue got the better of the Bengals, however, and the fresher Green Bears pulled victory from defeat. 57 Sears And Cfieevs 58 Cosses And Wins 59 Homecoming HigfHigdts $udy And Mf Rei9n King Jeff Geer and Queen Judy Gee reigned at the Homecoming Dance on February 5, 1966 after the McClure— Metamora basketball conflict. Seniors SpAik Successful Season With the end of the fall baseball season, Meta- mora came out with a win-loss record of 3-3. In all, the Tigers came up with two sound victories and one squeaker won by one run. Metamora lost one league game and two non- league games. As the season closed, the Tigers were tied with Lyons and Pettisville for first place in the league. The team batted at an average of .305 with 47 hits bringing across a total of 29 runs. Errors were committed time and time again throughout the baseball season and this spelled the difference between a 6-0 and 3-3 win-loss season. A strong effort by the team will be made to capture the title this spring. 62 3vom Streets to Quttevs Meeting every Tuesday after school, are the members of the Evergreen Mixed Bowling Lea- gue.
